As a great man once told me, nothing rhymes with Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal and I have come to discover that he was correct in his statement. The Unabhängigkeitsdenkmal in Ashgabat is a tribute to independence for the country with nice marble grounds, huge tower and a gold...More

Quintessential example of the splendor and opulence used in erecting monuments by the nation's previous president. Set in the large Independence park including a large amount of dark / gold statues, golden statue of the former president himself plus a myriad of fountains.

This is a beautiful monument, like all other monuments in Ashgabat. You wouldn't want to spend too long there though because apart from it, there's nothing else to see / do there. After a few photos, it'd be time to move on. There isn't much...More

Very impressive monument, I cant really compare it to anything that I've previously seen. It really shows PRIDE Turkmen People take in their history.

If you see...More

This is one of the MANY monuments that you see throughout Ashbabat. It is probably the most impressive in terms of size, pomposity and grandeur. You can get a great view of Independence Park from this monument.

Independence Park hosts the monument celebrating 8 years of independence. There is another celebrating five years. I enjoyed walking around it and looking at all the statues. You also get a good view of the national library across the road. Just as we finished the...More

I spend a whole afternoon here, just walking around and enjoying the modern Ashgabat which in my idea you can see in this beautiful park. I was really impressed with the giant statues!

As with most things in Ashgabat, this place is utterly deserted, as someone else commented, it feels like a movie set. For a ten minute wander (any longer and you would spontaneously combust in the heat) it is interesting and the statues and monuments are...More
