Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Though I've been to Laksala few times, I can not quite recall what it looked like or the specific gift items they had, except for some general impression. I went there today again to see what gift options they have, in case I needed to buy some.

Must say I'm pretty impressed by the variety of items they have on display; from Ceylon Teas to spices to various other gift items, including clothes.

I specifically wanted to see whether they have a particular type of traditional masks that I am interested in - popularly known as "Daha Ata Sanniya". Unfortunately they did not have this very thing I was looking for. But I was told that they had these masks earlier and they may get some new stocks soon, perhaps in a weeks time or so.

But given the general lackluster attitude of their sales agents (except for one or two), that is quite usual for government establishments in Sri Lanka, I am not sure if I could take their word seriously.

Anyway it's a good shop to visit if you want to buy any souvenirs and/or gifts to your friends and family back at home. But today the most or all of the vistors during my brief visit were locals. So I guess it's a shop popular both among the locals as well as foreigners.

Avoid if you can as being a government shop, they would blatantly lie to you to sell their products. I bought a shirt higher than my size in the expectation that it would shrink (although the shop categorically assured me it won't). Low and behold, it shrunk 2 sizes below my size. I also bought an elephant souvenir which I am sure will fade with time despite paying £200 for it. What a rip off!!

This is a place is located in Colombo. You would want to visit in case you decide to take back some gifts or souvenirs for family and friends. Very reasonable and genuine. It's recognised by the Govt. The staff are also very courteous and friendly. Payments can be made in cash or credit cards.

Very limited variety in terms of souvenirs but for last minute purchase it's good. Price of item very similar to other shop. Not much of a big difference and the Muwatha shop at Colombo is quite far and one has to make special visit there
It's better to purchase from one of their shop at tourist location like old dutch hospital precinct.

An excellent location to buy authentic souvenirs for the family and friends back home. Most of the shops around Sri Lanka are considerably more expensive.

Bought lots and lots of stuff for ourselves, family and friends!

Masks, T-Shirts, fridge magnets, key chains, Sri Lanka themed coffee mugs, thimbles and elephant statues. Cinnamon.

Delightful to browse. Very attentive and helpful staff; a rarity these days!

Uncertain of the cinnamon oil. The bottle was not leakproof and it imparted an odd smell to a few clothes. Odd taste. Massage and aromatherapy perhaps the only options left.

Laksala is a great shop and has lot of traditional stuff to purchase. One could get all handicraft stuff, Spices, Tea, cloths. The price point is a tad higer, but the stuff is really good.
