Calling on all gem lovers and bargain hunters to Sri Lanka: the small shop located at the Heritance Kandalama Hotel in Dambula is a must stop for you! Especially true if you are astute enough to be their first « lucky » customer of the day. The choices are plentiful, the quality is great, depending on your price range. I walked out of the place with beautiful handcrafted jewelry and could not be happier. Thank you!

Interesting video about gems, however, the man giving us information kept pushing us to buy items after the explanation. We were not interested to buy but he kept insisting and offering discounts. Moreover, the place smelled mouldy and this man had poor English. Not recommended.

Brilliant place to visit even if not wanting to buy. Starts of with a video telling you about precious and semi precious stones mined . How they are sorced and the various stages inbetween. No pressure to buy.

Bought a garnet ring from here once and it did not even last for a week before the stone fell off from it's setting. When I went to repair it later at a workshop in singapore I was told that the ring was not even sterling silver as stated and the stone was an imitation. Also the prices were very high.

We stayed at Aliya Spa and Resort in January 2015. Glamorous camping here is excellent and we would recommend this to anyone. The resort is one of the best we have stayed at.
We purchased a wooden elephant for R8000 from the gift shop which is owned and operated by Premadasas. On its back was a white self adhesive sticker with the price.
When we arrived home in Singapore and removed the sticker it has left an imprint of the sticker on the elephant, the stain used has been dissolved by glue from the sticker.
We contacted the Group General Manager of Premadasas who implied we were not truthful and refused to take any responsibility. Several emails later he said we could exchange it if we returned to Sri Lanka which is very unlikely. This company has not accepted liability, we find the GGM to be very rude and would not recommend dealing with them.

I visited Premadasa Jewelers October 2014 and bought 2 pairs of Sapphire ear rings and one Sapphire ring, and was given a guarantee of quality workmanship and a certificate of authenticity, but was disappointed on returning to the US that one of the ear rings stone fell off. I wrote several emails to the store in Colombo and never heard back from them, It was only after I asked my tour guide to call on the jewelers, that someone acknowledged my email and asked that I mail the defective ear ring back. This is unacceptable as I do not trust the store any more. False promises and claims of Quality and Workmanship are misleading to Clients and I would NOT recommend doing business with an unethical store like Premadasa Jewelers. I am truly disappointed as is my daughter whom I bought these ear rings for. Caveat Emptor.

We purchased a pink sapphire here. I asked them to describe the quality of the stone to me. When we had the stone set in Singapore it was a much inferior stone to what was suggested to us. I'm happy to accept responsibility for over paying for something but not for buying something that has been misrepresented to me. Based on my experience I suggest you give this place a wide berth

We purchased a stone from their dambulla store and asked for them to put it in a setting. When we returned to collect, the design was incorrect and then we noticed that the stone was actually cracked and not the same stone we had selected.
We asked for a refund but were told that international refunds take weeks to process. We opted to select another ring. After purchasing this ring (for more money again) we noticed that the ring was chipped. We returned the ring and insisted on a refund.
Again we were told due to the recent attacks that the central bank must first approve all international bank transfers. As we were on honeymoon we had no choice but to accept this information in good faith. We returned the ring and left.
3 weeks later and I have no contact from either the branch or head office of the company. My bank is attempting to initiate a refund but it's going to be a protracted battle.
Do not shop here (Dambulla branch, in our case but their head office and been equally unhelpful). They are unscrupulous people who are taking advantage of the recent attacks and tourists in general to sell poor quality stones at premium prices and in the event of realising their scam it is very difficult to get your money back.
Nobody needs this hassle on vacation. I'm still waiting for an update from a company rep and my refund
