The Dutch museum is located in an old, traditional building in a busy, local shopping area. Use Google-maps when walking there. Upon arrival we found the museum closed for renovation. No indication when it will be re-opened nor the impression renovation is already going on...More

We have visited the museum in our earlier trips to the city and although the building was not too well maintained, it was a pleasure to see the artefacts and furniture on display. After plodding through difficult traffic we finally trundled up to the somewhat...More

The building is pretty impressive - but it (like a lot of the historic buildings in Colombo) needs restoration. It's a huge 2 story mansion that houses a lot of informative history about the Dutch period of colonization. The bit we found the most interesting...More

Hard to find but obviously an important building with some interesting features and pieces from the 18th century period when Dutch were here - worth a visit

It is an important and old building. It does have quite a few original pieces. It was not crowded when we visited. However, there is nothing dazzling or must-see. The labels and posted explanations are either long-winded and academic or brief and confusing. It's good...More

This is a very intact 18th Century Dutch house and the best example in Colombo. It has many original features and houses a collection of furniture and artifacts. It also has a nice garden and out buildings. The problem is that this special house is...More

Same story as the national museum: another beautiful old building left to rot with poorly presented artefacts. Guide books (I'm looking at you, Lonely Planet) can be way off the mark sometimes. With some proper attention, this could be really interesting. At the moment, it's...More
