Built after World War I by the British and designed by the famous architect Sir Edwin Lutyens. Originally built at Galle Face but moved to a safer site on the edge of Viharamahadevi Park (Victoria park).

It is a beautiful and a tall tower located beside the pubic Library in a central place in Colombo. Both the War Memorial and the public library are on a due of Victoria ark and can see both in one tour.
The War Memorial is dedicated to Military personnel who died in the world war I and II. Their names are imprinted on the walls of the war memorial.at eye sight level.
The first war memorial was made in the Galle Face but later it was moved to this lace. It was built by Britishers during their ruling time in 1921 to 1923. It is by the public road and can be seen while travlling by its side.

Also known as Victory Tower, was erected in British Colonial era (1921-1923) which is originally established in Galle Face Green. Now it is situated in west end of the Vihara Maha Devi park next to Colombo Public Library.
It was dedicated to military personnel who were killed in world wars. It was first built in Galle Face Green in 1923. With the world war II, British government was afraid that Japanese might use this as a mark to direct their artillery. So the tower dismantled and re built in Victoria park currently known as Vihara Maha Devi park. The names of military personnel are displayed in memorial walls.
You can easily notice the pinnacle of the tower if you are travelling close by. Thus less likely to be missed. The area is really calm. You can sit and wait. No one will disturb you. The area is satisfactorily maintained. Entrance is free.
