We were shown around this holy place by 2 monks in the middle of the day, very hot experience. A ongoing big renovation makes it like you are on a working trip together with a lot of local workers, making a new impression of the temple area and buildings. It is a stunning wonderful experience to be here and the... More

Some maintenance construction going on around the skirting of the stupa. U have to pay an admission fee to enter. Only activity there is to walk around the stupa which could take 10-15mins (including photo ops).

Pha That Luang (Great Golden Stupa) at 45m high, is a rather impressive sight worth visiting at least once when in Vientiane. It is the most important Buddhist monument in Laos and has a history dating back to the ancient Khmer civilization. It was built by King Saysetthathirath in 1566 and had undergone several reconstructions due to foreign invasions The... More

Whilst it may not have the artistic interest of some t miles it is definitely worth a visit. Scale and effect of uninterrupted gold paint against the blue sky beautiful. Internal courtyard bin restor d and will no doubt be better for that. Other temples in complex more modern but massive.

Apparently you haven't 'arrived' in Vientiane unless you've visited the Golden Stupa. It's pretty impressive but not a lot to do except take photos and walk around it.

Beautiful architecture and interesting historical site well worth a visit while you are in the area. My favorites were the reception area and the story on the wall you could read while touring the rooms

This is a very popular attraction and one to photograph. Much of the monument was under renovation or construction. Other than walking around and taking photos of the gold stupa and Buddha, there is nothing much to see. Would be much better if it were not covered with tarps and scaffolding.

We went here and took 2 photos that was it! You pay 40,000 in transport 1 way only only to take a photo. It is also under construction. Sure it is the symbol of Laos but don't expect to spend a lot of time there!

Currently under renovation and much of it is covered in green scaffolding . Not much to see inside so not worth paying to get in BUT its supposedly a reliquary of Buddhas breast bone ; it is a national monument and it provides a perfect focus for a cycle tour around Vientiane .Its definitely worth a look. Wat Sisaket ,... More
