Our guide took us there when I asked for a place with silk weavings. It's a bit out of town. The ladies were at work and said ok to my photographing them. A lot of skill goes into their work. I selected a scarf in the showroom and the sales person was lovely, everything of highest quality. The store is... More

When you watch these ladies working in this co-operative you appreciate how the end product arrives at its price. The work is hard, intricate and I guess, sometimes tedious. There is more and more shops in the centre selling silk products to tourists. If you want to experience how these shawls and hangings are made, hop on your bicycle or hire a tuktuk and come out here. In the backyard you can watch the ladies in their looms, and you can imagine how much work and art is in... More

Phaeng Mai Gallery is a true find in Laos and while it is a little out of the way, it's worth the visit if you're interested in quality Lao silk products. In addition to the gallery/store, they have a whole workshop in the back where their staff produce the silk, dye them in natural dyes and weave them into the... More
