The Brunei Museum was established in 1965, with its first administrative office at the Civic Centre in Bandar Brunei, now known as Bandar Seri Begawan. Given approval for a building of its own, a location was selected for the museum, on a historical site, at Kota Batu about 5km from Bandar Seri Begawan. The construction of the building commenced in 1968 and was completed in 1970. It was officially opened on February 29, 1972 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of United Kingdom.

An excellent resource to discover the human and natural history of this unique country. Lots of hands-on exhibits. Most of the displays are in both Malay and English.

A lot of people thought that the Royal Regalia near the city centre is the museum. Actually the Brunei museum is a bit out of town approx 20 minutes from town. It's near the Malay Technology Museum.

The museum wasnear our hotel. So nice place and deserve to be visited. It summarizes visually the history of Brunei, the British control, the Royal family, the sultan's education, hobbies, marriage, and celebrations. The museum shows also the independence of Brunei
