Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The oldest building, built in the 11th (!) century!!!
According to legend, she saved the city from the siege of the Russian fleet; a cannon shot hit the mosque, which damaged it, and after that the storm that broke out carried our squadron out to sea. The city was not taken. This is the story, the mosque-mascot.

This building is named after it’s architect Mohammed Abu-Bakr. It is also called Synyk-Kala or destroyed tower, because in 1723
Armies of Peter I heavily bombed canons balls from ships and destroyed the mosques tower. There is a low archway at the mosque’s entrance so that king or beggar entering the mosque bows his head. The age of the mosque was determined by the Arabic inscriptions in a stone tablet stating that it was built in 471 Hijri. This means it was constructed in 1078— 1079 AD. This mosque is perhaps the most ancient building of Azerbaijan.

You can wander past this small 11th century mosque. It is also referred to as the Sigiggala mosque, which means damaged tower. The Russians bombed the city (1722-23) and one hit the tower, and later a storm blew the ships out to sea which locals interpreted as an intervention from above.

So this is one of those sights that you have to "check off" your list of things to see in Baku's old city, but it's nothing special. It's interesting historically (it was built in the 11th century), but you can't go in to visit it, so it's basically just walking by and looking...
