It consists of two sections : external sculpture gardens and internal Art Galleries. It is best to enter from the bottom and ride the seven escalators to the top of the complex ; along the way you can decide to visit the internal part. Also along the way, you see lots of artworks displayed on the side of the escalators. Once you reach the top you start descending on the stairs back towards Tamanyan street gardens, and stop at garden terraces, each with garden beds, fountains, statues and sculptures. On a clear day the views from the top are sensational and you may see Mt Ararat.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 11 November 2023
- HelenjenBrisbane, Australia897 contributionsVERY impressive to visit, something for everyone....except a bathroom!!This is a VERY impressive place to visit with interesting architecture, amazing views, artwork & sculptures both inside and out and generally something to appeal to everyone. We were surprised that there are no entrance fees and even more surprised that there is no bathroom/toilet/WC in the whole complex! Really, surely one token bathroom where we ladies could all queue up, as we usually do! After spending several hours enjoying the complex, I went from restaurant to restaurant asking if I could use their facilities, and finally, in the nick of time, one did :)Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 8 February 2024

- KarenIgn13 contributionsGreat Art Center in the heart of YerevanGreat place to walk and indulge the artworks and installations displayed outside. Make sure to go inside the center. Also, walk up the stairs for a wonderful view of Yerevan. The only thing that bothered me was the unkempt hills on the left and right sides.Visited May 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 11 May 2024
- stevebintleyBedford, United Kingdom8,758 contributionsAmazing area and viewsHaving previously visited the cascade steps in Chisinau I was expecting more of the same, but this is like nothing else! The scale is massive and everything clean and well-kept. The gardens at the base of the structure are a delight alone, and there’s lots of good restaurants and cafes - ideal to recover in if you tackle the climb. And what a climb it is - you’ll need strong legs if you want to reach the top but fortunately there’s plenty of opportunities to sit and catch your breath on the way up. When at the top the views over the city are impressive and on a clear day the mountainous backdrop is gorgeous. I was hesitant whether to go all the way, but if you have the fitness I’d really encourage you to do so. Don’t leave the city without coming here, it was certainly one of my highlights.Visited March 2024Travelled soloWritten 8 June 2024
- kimwillruleSingapore, Singapore6,498 contributionsBrutalist Soviet styled contemporary architectureCafesjian Center for the Arts, Yerevan, Armenia: This was the true Brutalist bait that lured us to Yerevan, Armenia. It was jaw-dropping for me in pictures. But standing in front of the spectacular, deeply Soviet-inspired, Brutalist construct left me truly bereft of words. Originally conceived by Soviet grandmaster architect Alexander Tamayan in the 1920’s, works ground to a halt but was finally rescued by American Philanthropist Gerard Cafesjian. The entire grounds is just simply genre defying, beyond the category of contemporary architecture.. We gave the interior exhibitions a miss because the exterior is just so stunning and time consuming to comb through. There are fountains and gardens on every few floors, which throws up a spectacular view of the city. Artworks are strewn everywhere - from the gardens in front of the the floors in between. You don’t need to get a museum entrance ticket. Simply soak in the exterior. #eatstylishtravelstylishVisited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 June 2024
- HudsonmccrawVirginia Beach, Virginia3,930 contributionsWorth visiting for a great view of the city. Stunning in appearance.I came across the Yerevan Cascade when it was used as a pickup and drop off point for one of the tours. Which means I wanted to go up the steps to go to the top. On a hot summer day, it was kind of tough to do as I had to stop at several points to rest. But it was totally worth it. Up at the top, there is a monument on a platform. But most impressive, is a most spectacular view of the city of Yerevan with Mt. Ararat in the background. It was so rewarding to get such a view of the city from the top of the Cascade. The art museum had some nice exhibits that make it worthwhile to visit. It was impressive. I was pleased that I was able to visit and enjoy the grandeur of one of Yerevan’s most iconic landmarks.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 20 June 2024
- Coryy20Port of Spain, Trinidad6,366 contributionsInteresting inside, outside and from the topThe Cafesjian of Arts is parr of the Cascade Complex which consists of an art museum inside and a lush and outside a well- manicured garden. To get to the top of the Cascade Complex you can climb the steps ...if you are fit, because they are endless. Alternatively you can use the many escalators (I think about 7 in total) inside the building and stop any level you choose to explore before going directly to the top for the best view of Yerevan.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 24 June 2024
- beetcanner732 contributionsMore Than A Cascade GardenThis Center for the Arts offers all kinds of cultural activities such as gallery shows featuring Armenian artists. The Cascade Garden is truly a decorative system of staircases and staircase gardens of colorful flowers linking Yerevan's downtown to the residential areas of the surrounding hills. Three Botero works as well as other interesting sculptures along the walking paths. Benches offer places to sit and relax under cypress trees. Several very nice restaurants line the park, so there are places for lunch and refreshments available right there.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 19 August 2024

The Cascade (different levels up) is the actual experience, even if it was only for the views. However, the Art outside on the square is nice and the halls inside give it a weird twist. Inside there are also escalators with art on your left (going up). Most of the halls (on your right, going up) are free of charge and you get there by taking elevators one floor down inside. Soviet meets modern art. :)

CAFESJIAN CENTER FOR THE ARTS is actually an Armenian Art Museum housed in the distinctive “Cascade Complex” in the capital city of Yerevan. It is named after the American-Armenian entrepreneur and Philanthropist Gerard L. Cafesjian who took the initiative to renovate and transform the Cascade Complex into a well-known center for the arts (through his Museum Foundation in Armenia) from 2002-2009. The Cafesjian Center for the Arts is dedicated to bring the best of contemporary art to Armenia and the best of Armenian culture to the world.
The Cafesjian Center for the Arts has the collection of modern and contemporary art of the founder and plays an important cultural role in Armenia through a big array of events (e.g. exhibitions, lectures, concerts, etc.).
Inside the Cascade there is a series of electrical escalators, halls and exhibitions (e.g. Khanjyan Gallery), while outside is the monumental staircase up to the hill and the Cafesjian Sculpture Garden (with works of Fernando Botero, etc.) on the bottom of the hill.
We have visited the Cafesjian Center for the Arts more times and we liked it.
The whole complex is very impressive and very interesting (especially for the art lover visitor), for nice views to the city and therefore I think it is not to be missed while in Yerevan, Armenia.

I was pleasantly surprised by the museum. It is a must see even if you are not into modern art. It is a very large museum. You climb up through escalators seeing art as you move up. When you reach the top, you get a super view of the city.
If you want, you can keep climbing to another viewing pad above this museum but this is optional if you are pressed for time.

My Airbnb is a block and a half from the cascade complex. I walk to the top every other day as substitute for my gym back home and never get tired of the view of the city and Mt. Ararat in the distance. I greatly enjoy sitting in the sculpture garden at the foot of the cascade and watching the people. The place in particular comes alive in the evening when all the open air restaurants lining the garden come alive. I can only imagine the added beauty of the cascade if flowers were planted in all the proper areas. Also, some of the pieces of art along the escalator are in sad condition and could be restored or replaced. It is too bad that the work on the cascade complex was never finished. I looked up the original design and it would be fantastic.

Beautiful place and a must in every visit to Yerevan. You can go up the stairs on foot or take the escalators, they are located inside the building on the left side. If you are lucky, the mount Ararat will be visible and you will have amazing views from the top.

Interesting statues and arts and one kind of an exercise going to the top .. I’m just wondering what they’re building in that space when reaching the top .
I guess its more admirable during summer - or when the flowers bloom ..
