Private car Hue to An Bang - The city of Ghost

The city of Ghosts is something tourists simply cannot find in the bustling city of tourist attractions. This place lay in a quiet village with many hard-working local fishermen. But they are taking the tomb tradition to a scale that will surprise even people from cities nearby.

It is absolutely impossible to miss "Sông Huong" - the beautiful "Perfume River" - at any visit to Huê. It spans for over 80 kms, from the Truong Son Mountains to the very city center of Huê, before flowing into the Tam Giang Lagoon and the South China Sea. Its poetic name probably derives from the scents of flowers dropped in its waters from upriver orchards, mainly in the Fall months. Boat or river cruises can be easily arranged and are a great opportunity to check on some of Huê main tourist attractions, such as "Thien Mu Pagoda", "Huê Imperial City - The Citadel", "Hon Chen Temple" and the "Tomb of Minh Mang", among others. Its waterfront is quite lively, with awesome sunsets and the scenic evening lights of "Truong Tien Bridge". Great for long walks and relaxation. Enjoy!

What a lovely river, the Perfume river is. We walked along this river for a while and took in the beauty. It is a wide river which we saw a few times while in Hue.

As I was happily sailing down the Perfume River I did wonder how on earth it managed to acquire the name as, try as I could, I could not detect a whiff of perfume in the air. Apparently though in the Autumn the petals of the Orchids up river fall into the water giving the river a perfumed aroma. No good for me travelling in March. A pleasant river part of which reminded me of the tow path of the Thames near Kingston

The River was given its name well over 100 years ago. It use to have a strong floral smell from the orchard from upriver. It was normally smelt in the autumn months when the flowers would fall into the river. Some people claim they can still smell it but due to pollution most people claim there is no longer a smell. It was the perfect location for a mid day stroll. We didn’t actually go out on a boat tour but we did enjoy sitting in the park and people watching, kids playing, people gathering & fishing.
