- JnVSydneyGreater Sydney, Australia21,227 contributionsA different vibe.....The traditional night street markets that run along the side of Ben Thanh Market seems to be no more, However the actual markets seems to have picked the short fall, closing at around 9 pm, however most stalls start closing up around 8pm. The food stalls, tend to finish around 4pm, however, more than enough stay open for dinner, around 6pm, this is the perfect time for us during our one month stay we have been coming here everyday either for lunch or dinner, we have three fave stalls. Sap (shop) 1008 - Drinks, she makes the Bestest smoothies, we have had, the banana with coffee (just ask for it to be added) and the fresh coconut, again with coffee are to die for, amazing value, (shuts around 6pm), cheaper than out on the streets. Sap 1006, Bun Cuon (next to the drinks lady), Steamed Rice Paper Pancake, (with pork mince filling), its made right in front of you, they are like a taste explosion, unfortunately she is not open for dinner. (shuts around 4pm) Sap 1162-1038, Makes everything - located in the centre of the stalls, worth navigating to it via shop numbers, with smoothies in hand, we come here everyday, after our long city walk for dinner, our fave dishes, are the crispy fried pancake, (see photos) with greens and the vegetarian fried noodle, we have also tried numerous other dishes they are all perfect, however we keep coming back for these two. Obviously there are fancier places around, (with AC and flashy presentation) albeit a lot pricier, than here. All in all we love coming here and will miss the experience when we leave.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 October 2023
- AFAK25Jeddah, Saudi Arabia4,467 contributionsExpensiveTo be honest I believe the prices here are more expensive than in my hometown. Our tour guide advised us to ask for 50% of the prices quoted by the stallkeepers but even than I still think they are still expensive. It's fine to buy some stuff as momentos of visit to Saigon but don't expect this place to be a shoppers' heaven. The peddlers selling on the streets outside the Muslim restaurants offer more reasonable prices, even without bargaining.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten 21 December 2023
- Oscar Voysey4 contributionsExciting, cheap, busy, bargainingAmazing place. I’ve never been to a shop, mall, festival, kilo sale that’s better for designer and streetware brands than this place. You can get northface, arcteryx, Patagonia for literally 10% if not less of the actual value of the bag, top, jersey. Honestly crazy cheap and the quality is sometimes identical to the real thing. Not always, you do have to search and do your own bargaining! They will try sell a T-shirt for 1 million dong, then round the corner you can get the same thing for 80,000 (£2) so defo don’t agree to the first price. Food and drink is fine, nothing special. Realistically the only reason to come to this place is to get crazy cool clothes and shoes and bags for a fraction. Lots of designer stuff too and a couple Rolex shops. It’s big too there’s so many stalls. Go from 6pm->11:30 open all the time. All items in the bed picture cost me about £22 altogether. RRP would be £300 minimumVisited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 7 April 2024
- Loni P1 contributionTips and TricksThe area was lively with many different vendors. For items, always bargain and don't be afraid to look around before you make a purchase. For food, I would recommend trying little snacks, and fruit drinks from stands, to get a taste of the city. One trick I use to choose a good vendor, is to choose a busy/long line. This way you know others like it, and the food is constantly moving out.Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 15 May 2024
- andrew c2 contributionsBen Tanh MarketsReally good to get cheap knock off's. It is more chaotic than I remember it & prices will never be the same post covid. Some very pushy sellers. I wouldn't recommend going jet jet-lagged definitely make sure you are in top form to haggle over zealous vendors.Visited September 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 2 September 2024

First day in Saigon and went to this market which had good reviews. Turns out, was awful. Same $#!t, different stall. Vendors selling fake, low quality goods at inflated prices. Absolute waste of time. You can find the same in other reputable shops away from the markets, though at a slightly higher quality and price. Had I known this, I'd have chosen to pay more just to avoid being shouted at and followed around. It's really bot worth it, I just wanted to look around, buy what I wanted and leave. I stayed 10 minutes and left. Was a total waste of time.

The market and surrounding area is very lively.
Everything that’s commonly eaten, or worn is available here, vegetables, meat, fish, spices, sweets, nuts, clothing, hardware and of course souvenirs!
It was built in 1914 and has a main clock tower and belfry.
It’s great fun, definitely bargain with the stall holders.
The food served in the street food area is delicious.

This market is run by aggressive vendors who are very rude & their behaviour is disgusting. I will never step foot in this place again. They scream at you if you touch their products & decide not to buy it. I have not seen anything like it before. I find markets a fun place but not this one.

A cool market place to wander around and worth a visit. However, this is a very quick and minor attraction if you are a window shopping tourist, and only really good if you are actually looking to buy something. You are packed in and the vendors will harass you every step of the way unless other tourists already have thier attention.

This market was too busy and too overwhelming with the vendors crowding you the whole time. Not enjoyable at all. We wanted food and at one time had five different stall holders shoving menus at our faces

I don't mean to rate the Night Market at all but rather, it no longer exists. I've been in HCM for the past several days, and been to Ben Thanh market many times during my visit. Told by the locals the night market doesn't exist anymore due to COVID, which is very unfortunate. Back in Dec 2019/Jan 2020 when I was here last, the Night Market was a nice added attraction to the area.
Hopefully, with the lifting of restrictions, the Night Market will return when I visit HCM next year.

Spent all day walking around in the heat and found this little Vietnamese sweet store inside the Ben Thanh Market.
Very nice and refreshing, worth it when you need something to keep you going while on holiday.
The store is situated at the back of the market where the food area is and it only sells sweets.

like all night markets, they stay up to 12 midnight..but if it is lean season or not too many shoppers, some -they close a little earlier.
