We have done two visits to Vietnam in the past 10 months, including a trip to Northern Vietnam just this week. We put our trust in Dzung at Tonkin Travel, and she did amazing work both times. Our first visit last spring included Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, Hue and Hoi An. Every single step of the journey was taken care of from airport pick up to drop off at the end. Tonkin made it easy and simple--and left us simply to enjoy the experience. We are just back from a visit to Hanoi and the north and had another amazing time. Dzung arranged for everything. The selection of hotels at every single stop on both trips was impeccable. Our drivers and private guides were terrific. We were cared for at every stop on both journeys. I can't say enough about the experience of working with Tonkin. We did our first trip plans via email from New York and our second also via email from Hong Kong. Seamless and exceptional experiences both times. Don't waste money on expensive European or American tour companies that will book you on big buses and charge you tons of money. Tonkin does it better and at a much better price point!

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderful 30 day visit to South East Asia, organised for us by Quan at Tonkin Travel and we really couldn't praise him, or the company, more highly.
Throughout, his attention to detail and prompt response to any query was exceptional and, in response to our specific requirements, preferences and budget, he absolutely delivered.
Throughout our travels, all flights and transfers went without hitch and all guides were personal and informative.
Quan's recommended hotels and other tour suggestions gave us an experience beyond all reasonable expectations, given our budget.
Personally, we felt that we benefited by having a tour company based in the region organising our travel arrangements.
We would happily recommend Tonkin Travel, and particularly Quan, to anyone considering a trip to Vietnam in particular, and SE Asia in general.
Throughout, his attention to detail and prompt response to any query was exceptional and, in response to our specific requirements, preferences and budget, he absolutely delivered.

We were recommended Tonkin Travel by one of our friends who went to Vietnam the year before and as we had never been to South East Asia before, we decided that we'd use a travel company for ease, and I'm so glad that we did! We spent 14 days in Vietnam travelling from North to South covering Hanoi, Halong Bay, Phu Quoc and Ho Chi Mihn...and it was incredible! Every transfer that picked us up ran smoothly, every hotel we visited was just wonderful and every tour we went on was amazing. We didn't feel like we were in the mass of hundreds of other tourists (even though there are places where this is obviously unavoidable), everything was tailored to us and so well organised. The entire trip ran without a single glitch and it was the most stress-free way to travel! Quan Nguyen at Tonkin was super helpful throughout the organisation of our holiday and answered all of the (many!) questions I had. Quan provided us with lots of additional information including about local customs/tipping/etiquette etc. which I think is important to understand and very helpful if you haven't visited the country before. Making payment was really easy both before we went on holiday and also once we got there - everything was a breeze and it was lovely to actually meet Quan at their office, and have a nice cup of tea! I would 100% recommend Tonkin Travel – we wish we could re-create them for the other countries on our list! A huge thank you from Helen and John!

We travelled with Tonkin Travel in 2015 and had such a wonderful time that we decided to use them again this year. Phuong was so helpful with developing an exciting itinerary for our trip in 2020 (and in 2015!) and we were very much looking forward to travelling to Vietnam again. Unfortunately, I became unwell and we were not able to travel. As we cancelled very close to our departure date I was concerned about getting any refund. I shouldn't have been! Tonkin Travel worked hard to get us almost a full refund - there were some cancellation fees we had to pay but they were minimal. I can only say how wonderful Tonkin Travel is and we will definitely be using them again when next we travel to Vietnam.

Our group had an amazing, once of a lifetime, custom arranged trip to Vietnam, and it’s all thanks to Mrs. Hang Pham of Tonkin Travel for making it happen. Mrs. Pham patiently worked with me and my large group to get us the exact details (hotels, transportation logistics, event tours, last minute requests) of our custom tour perfect. Mrs. Pham did an excellent job in keeping us organized and staying on top of all my questions/concerns. Her attention to details and care, especially in arranging the nice gifts for my sister-in-law who is recovering from cancer, made her family’s trip even more enjoyable and was a very nice endearing touch. We would also like to extend our thanks to all the wonderful tour guides that met us at each of the different cities. Their communications skills and professionalism were outstanding. Their knowledge of the city and details of historical events made our sometimes long bus ride very enjoyable. Thanks also to all the drivers and their assistants who helped load our luggage’s, drove us around through the crazy VN traffic and for getting us back safely each time.
If we ever decide to come back, we will definitely use Tonkin Travel! We highly recommend Mrs. Hang Pham and Tonkin’s services to everyone!

I approached Hanh at Tonkin Travel about 2 weeks before I planned to travel, and incredibly, within that short time he was able to accommodate all my many requests. My husband and I travelled for three weeks across Vietnam and Cambodia and everything ran like clockwork. Countless transfers and travel arrangements always went according to plan. A great itinerary and the guides always tried to make sure we saw things at the least busy time, and if we got tired and didn't feel like doing something, the guides let us change things around with no bother. In Halong Bay, we joined a larger group to go on a cruise, which was lovely to chat to others. I think previous reviews mentioned this as some kind of failing of the company, but really who wants to go on a cruise completely alone? Also, Halong Bay is such a huge tourist attraction with all kinds of licenses required for each boat, so you just wouldn't get to cruise on it at all if you didn't go with a group. We went on the Dragon Pearl which was just lovely, and we still had only a few couples with us and a very quiet bay. It goes on the west bay, which is quieter than the other bay. We were covering a lot of ground in our itinerary, so initially (Hanoi, Halong Bay, Moon Garden) there was A LOT of driving between sights. I highly recommend booking at down week in the middle of your trip, or a couple of extra days in one place (Moon Garden?) so you don't feel like you're constantly on the run. We enjoyed a week in Hoi An, both in the Old town and on a beach resort just a few miles away. All hotels were very central and clean, with really amazing food! A couple of the tours included stops at things like a brick making factory or lantern making, which weren't very interesting to us, but the guides would be happy to change if you didn't like. All the guides were very friendly and eager to help. a few were either not great english speakers, or didn't have a great deal of knowledge, so we supplemented a few tours with reading and research of our own. But most were incredibly knowledgeable and could give us perspectives on every day life and politics and customs, which was very interesting. One night we were returning from a trip when the company gave us free tickets to the Saigon Opera House, which was a lovely surprise! All in All, when I think of all the endless arrangements that had to be made, to make this trip possible, I feel it was incredibly good value for money, so I would highly recommend!

Tonkin Travel is WONDERFUL for seamless customized travel through Indochina! This is the second customized trip that Tonkin Travel has arranged for us. Some years ago, we traveled from Hanoi to HCM City by train and car, with several stops, and all arrangements were flawless. Our recent and more complicated November-December 2023 journey was arranged by the highly competent, responsive, and truly very nice travel consultant Ms Nga Duong at Tonkin Travel. We supplied our general itinerary, and Nga worked patiently and very well to advise on details and suggested some excellent improvements. My wife and I traveled to Sapa, Dien Bien Phu, and through Laos by road and boat to Luang Prabang. We had an excellent guide and driver in Vietnam to the Laos border gate, where a similarly fine team was waiting to collect us. The vehicles were in excellent condition, the drivers careful and steady, and our guides very well-informed and always solicitous. We saw and learned so many things about the local cultures that we would have missed on our own! Train tickets from Luang Prabang to Vientiane were arranged by Tonkin, and a Vientiane city guide awaited us on arrival. Tonkin also arranged our flight back to Hanoi, and all airport transfers. If you are seeking full-service but still personalized and flexible service, I unreservedly recommend Tonkin Travel.

We asked Ms Nga Duong to organise a 14 day tour of Vietnam from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh during December 2019. All communication was done via email and the itinerary as suggested by Nga was excellent. The itinerary included private transfer with driver and guides, overnight stay in Halong Bay on a boat, bicycle tours, cooking class and two internal flights. Everything went off without a hitch with tour guides all turning up on time. We throughly enjoyed our stay in Vietnam and I would have no hesitation in recommending Nga or her team at Tonkin Travel.

We used Tonkin Travel to organise a trip for our family including a 9 year old on a 4 day return trip from Hanoi to Sapa and the surrounds.
Itinerary:
Overnight train Hanoi to Lao Cai
Visit Bac Ha Sunday market with private guide and transport, walk through local village and farmlands, homestay for night.
Visit Fansipan Mountain via cable car and walk to top. Visit waterfalls and places for great photos of the area then back to homestay.
Walk from homestay through farmlands and small villages, bamboo forests and waterfalls before being driven back to Sapa for a shower and mini van back to Hanoi. All with same local guide with us all day. Dinner and breakfast included each day as well as transport, accommodation and local guide.
Hien from Tonkin met us at the train station to make sure we got the right train and even took us to our cabin at for a 10pm night train. On arrival at the station our local guide met us with a driver and took us to local markets explaining all the various random things for sale and how they are cooked, made and used. We did several walks through small villages and across rice terraces, bamboo forests and waterfalls. Our guide Su was great and adapted our walks to suit our abilities and enthusiasm for each day. We stayed in a homestay outside of the town of Sapa which was great the rooms were new and comfy with our own bathroom. The family cooked dinner and breakfast for us each night which where huge spreads of local dishes and homegrown produce, followed by rice wine! Staying out of Sapa town was the best thing. I came 15 years ago and it is a different place, busy, noisey and lots of flashing lights for spas and hotels.
All in all would highly recommend Tonkin as were so easy to deal with and organised a great trip to suit our needs and budget. And we didn't need to worry about a thing for the whole 4 days as was all taken care of!

Our joyful visit to Vietnam & Cambodia was possible due to fantastic and impeccable arrangements made by Tonkin. I interacted with Quan from Tonkin. He was extremely helpful in helping plan the itinerary, add good experiences e.g. Chapa Express train to SAPA and optimize sight seeing so that we could get good time to enjoy shopping and sight seeing as well. All the guides were enthusiastic , airport pickups and sightseeing on time. The hotels at all locations were very good. We were a group of 9 and unfortunately 2 of the group had to join 2 days later due to health issues. All cancelations, refunds and itinerary modifications were done super fast. Would strongly recommend Tonkin travels to every one.

Hi we will be on a HAL cruise docking near Halong bay from 8am until 11 pm on the 11/11/19. Has anyone done a cruise into Halong Bay from a cruise ship?

After having Tonkin Tours recommended, we used them for private tours around Hanoi ( including an overnight stay near Ninh Binh), so not what you're plannng. However I would recommend them unconditionally. Both guide & driver were excellent & everything went smoothly start to finish. Basically I think they will do exactly as you want or make recommendations based on their extensive experience. I would certainly use them again.

HI. In Hoan the hotel booked by Tonkin travel was excellent. (Think it is 4 star).
Check the hotel details suggested by Tonkin, go through Tripadvisor and other reviews and finalise it. Not necessary that only 5 star hotels are good. If you can afford the additional cost then it is fine .

Hi we booked via TravelLocal which is based in the uk and ABTA etc , you deal direct with Tonkin Travel but the soft ware etc is from TravelLocal which allows you to customise your trip
Must do trips Vesper tour Hanoi, Mekon delta on speed boat HCMC. Hue royal palace , Scenic drive from Hue to Hoi An "top gear " if brave do it on the back of a motor bike ..

Which cruise liner is recommended, there are so many on net for seniors .pick up hotel in Hanoi for one night and two days. Nice and luxurious serves Asian vegetarian meals also on request.

I have been twice, first time we went on the White Dolphin lines, very small but excellent would be my first choice. Last year we went with Bellezza lines, also good but larger ship. Contact Tonkin travel they booked for us, they know the best operators

Travel from Hanoi to Halong Bay is about 4 hours by car. The plane is the best way but it often cancels due to weather.
