Great holiday in Vietnam! My daughter and I went there and thanks to Tonkin travel arrangements we could get a real feeling of Vietnam. We started from Hanoi all the way down to Ho Chi Minh City visiting Ninh Binh, Halong Bay, Hue, Hoian having a little taste of everything. Food, history, culture and sightseeing. A place to recommend !

Both my wife and I highly recommend Tonkin Travel for all of your Asia travels. Our travel consultant. Ms Nga Duong spent a lot of time helping us plan our 25 day time in Vietnam from Hanoi down to the Mekong delta, and a lot of stops in between. she booked us amazing hotels and beautiful locations throughout Vietnam. Being 80 years old, I must admit, I have anxiety issues.Nga always responded to our text messages regarding all of our concerns promptly at allowing us to enjoy your trip completely stress-free. Both our personal guides and drivers were exceptionally nice and informative. The beauty of Vietnam and the people are amazing. Especially Nga 🌺❤️

Oct. 2023 • Friends
We are a couple in our seventies and we travelled from Cape Town to Laos and Thailand for a month, starting mid October. We travelled with a friend who decided to join us a month into our planning. And despite concerns about the weather in October/November we were extremely lucky and only had rain on three days and even then it was while travelling or just a brief shower, so we weren't impacted at all. It was however very hot and humid everywhere, especially in Northern Thailand and Bangkok.
Our itinerary was arranged by Phuong at Tonkin travel, as we had previously used Tonkin for a wonderful trip to Vietnam and Cambodia in 2016. Phuong was very patient with us when we tweaked the itinerary a couple of times, as one does when planning a trip like this. Except for the odd hiccup everything went extremely smoothly and it was a great comfort to have Phuong on WhatsApp to sort out any worries, such as transport arriving a little bit late on our last night to take us to the airport in Koh Samui. I'm not sure when she finds time to sleep...
In retrospect our itinerary might have been a bit too ambitious for us (not our younger friend) but we certainly saw just about everything we needed to in Laos (a beautiful hilly country with incredible rivers, islands and waterfalls) and we covered a lot of ground in Thailand as well. There were quite a number of one night stays but then also a few places where we stayed a couple of nights and could organise to get our laundry done and just relax a bit.
Luang Prabang was a favourite and I am sorry we didn't take Phuong's advice and stay another day to explore on our own. The road trip from Vang Vieng to Luang Prabang was terrible as the road is virtually one big pot hole and the trucks travelling to and from China are numerous. It was a trip of many hours. Perhaps a train trip would be better as Vang Vieng is worth a visit.
The Shompoo Cruise along the Mekong from Luang Prabang to Hoixay on the border of Thailand and Laos was another highlight and a wonderful relaxing way to enter Thailand from Laos but our "hotel" in Houixay was one of our lowlights and very far from everything, including the border, so it was lucky we had asked the guide on the cruise to pick us up and take us to the border as we would have found it extremely difficult to organise transport to the border with the language difficulties.
Thailand highlights were many - the opium museum, tea plantations and the hill side villages, the Chang Mai cooking class and of course many amazing Buddha temples. each one bigger and more golden than the next... We enjoyed our night train to Bangkok from Chang Mai despite some concerns about travelling second class.
Bangkok was a whirlwind of temples and palaces in the heat, and a wonderful "not to be missed" night street food tour with Kat. We enjoyed the Maeklog railway market (definitely worth a visit) and then went to Kanchanaburi to see the Kwai bridge and Erawan waterfall. We travelled to the ancient city of Ayutthaya, where we could have spent more time - but one only realises these things in retrospect.
The week on our own on Koh Samui was a wonderful way to end our trip and relax on the beach. We were out of season so it was very quiet, but the weather was perfect.
A trip like this, organised by a company like Tonkin is a wonderful cost effective way to see countries you might find difficult to travel through on your own. Everything was well organised, with good drivers and guides ensuring a stress free trip.

My wife and I just finished up a spectacular 25 day trip through SE Asia put together by Tonkin Travel. I worked with Ms Nga of Tonkin for over 5 months planning the trip. The trip was complex and involved a lot of intra-country and inter- country travel and logistics. Everything went off as planned, without any delays or hitches. Guides and transportation showed up when and where they were scheduled to. Reservations made were always honored. Ms. Nga was always available and immediately responsive through WhatsApp, which was key for making real-time changes in our plans as we travelled. The hotels we stayed in were fantastic. I relied heavily on Tonkin for their recommendations and local expertise and they came through. I highly recommend Tonkin Travel for anyone planning a trip to SE Asia. I felt I was taken care of as a client and being watched out for.

We recently returned from a 15 day trip to Vietnam and Cambodia, arranged by Hanh at TonkinTravel. All flights, hotels and transportation went flawlessly. We particularly liked the boutique hotels she selected, and for the most part the guides were excellent. Should we return to this area I would use Tonkin Travel again, however, I would skip Saigon as the sights mostly pertained to the war and were a distance from the city.

We have just returned from a trip to Vietnam, organised through Tonkin Travel and the wonderful Nga, who advised on our itinerary. There were lots of emails back and forth to create the perfect mix of adventure, culture, history and relaxing, and multiple changes made with responsiveness and patience. We were a little worried about trusting an unknown local agency but need not have been concerned as everything went very smoothly.
There was a lot of organisation and logistics to consider, to get us from one place to the next, ensure pick up and drop off etc which all happened like clockwork.
Guides were excellent, with a special mention for Ang in Hanoi and Hui in Hoi An. Nga went above and beyond, working until 8pm one night to amend an element of our trip, without complaint.
Hotels recommended by Nga were excellent, in particular the faultless service from La Siesta in Hoi An.
I could go on, but suffice to say I have no hesitation in recommending Tonkin and Nga (and Vietnam as an unforgettable trip) and will be certain to use them again. A huge thank you to all involved

Tonkin have done it again....
I first travelled with Tonkin in 2016 to Vietnam and had an outstanding holiday. We went back 2018. 2019 our trip to Myanmar was cancelled due to the Pandemic. This year we came back and did Laos and Northern Thailand. What an exceptional tour, Laos is un spoilt and beautiful. Accommodation, all arrangements handled by Tonkin. The river boat into Thailand was a real treat. Luang Prabang, I will return too and the surrounding country side which is beautiful. Northern Thailand, tea fields, coffee plantations the opium Museum all good. Lots of temples. Really enjoyed the sleeper train from Chaing Mai to Bangkok and the city food tour. The older part of Thailand Ayutthaya we could have should have stayed longer. Great organisation, good drivers/guides really was a fabulous trip

I had a 2 week vacation in Vietnam & wanted to see much of the country. I contacted Tonkin Travel through a referral and soon heard from Ms.Hanh.
My itinerary included travel to the North, Central & South Vietnam. Throughout my trip, Ms.Hanh kept in contact with me to make sure everything was ok & what my upcoming schedule was going to be. She is great to work with & will respond promptly if you have any questions.
Everything was pre-arranged for me including my flights within the country. At the end of my trip, I met Ms Hanh & her team who were all so friendly.
It was a fantastic trip put together by Ms.Hanh & her team, one that i will truly remember.
If you plan to visit Vietnam or the surrounding area, contact Ms.Hanh & she will put together an itinerary you would not forget.

Once again Tonkin Travel comes through. Used them for a three week trip to Vietnam in 2017 and used them again for a two-week trip in Thailand in October 2023. Extremely affordable, fantastic local guides/drivers and everything from the airport pickup to the domestic flights and tickets for the activities, etc. was absolutely seamless. As chaotic as SE Asia can be, it can truly be a vacation for you if you let Tonkin hadle the hard part. I lost my precription glasses in Chiang Mai and after trying unsucessfully to find my prescription at two optometrists (becuase I"m almost legally blind), I told our guide it was okay to give up and I would wear my prescription sunglasses for the rest of the trip (which would have been a nightmare). Instead of giving up, she tracked down an optometrist in the mall and I got my glasses. Also, if you have things to do/places to visit that aren't part of your itinerary, if there is time, the guides ensure that you get what you need. Aside from the eyeglasses debacle, I was able to visit some stores and a stall in Chinatown (Bangkok) that were off the beaten path. Cannot recommend Tonkin highly enough!

Tonkin planned everything for us. It was so smooth and well arranged we didn’t have to worry about a thing. The guide Vinh was excellent and knowledgeable and all the hotels and transfers they booked were very nice.

After having Tonkin Tours recommended, we used them for private tours around Hanoi ( including an overnight stay near Ninh Binh), so not what you're plannng. However I would recommend them unconditionally. Both guide & driver were excellent & everything went smoothly start to finish. Basically I think they will do exactly as you want or make recommendations based on their extensive experience. I would certainly use them again.

HI. In Hoan the hotel booked by Tonkin travel was excellent. (Think it is 4 star).
Check the hotel details suggested by Tonkin, go through Tripadvisor and other reviews and finalise it. Not necessary that only 5 star hotels are good. If you can afford the additional cost then it is fine .

Travel from Hanoi to Halong Bay is about 4 hours by car. The plane is the best way but it often cancels due to weather.
