Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Situated on the dike of the Duong River, Dinh To Commune, Thuan Thanh District, Bac Ninh Province. The pagoda was built in 17th century, according to "Noi Cong Ngoai Quoc" architectural style and includes 10 buildings spread over 100m, from the three-entrance gate to the bell-tower and back house. Two towers, 10m high Ton Duc and 13m high Bao Nghiem, are made of white rock, making the pagoda seem higher, more majestic and peaceful. Some remains of the 17th century are kept here such as statues, valuable donations, Nine-Story Lotus Tower, Tuyet Son Statue, Bao Nghiem Tower, and Statue of Kwan Yin with 1,000 arms and 1,000 eyes. The last renovations of the structure were carried out in 1992.

I've been here with my friends quite often. It is very old pagoda, nice traditional construction from Vietnamese people. Very impressive! If you have time please go here. It takes you around 40 minutes by taxi to get here from Hanoi. I recommend you spend 1 day for But Thap Pagoda and also Dong Ho painting village with Phat Tich Pagoda. They are considered as main points to visit there. I will be back soon!

Bút Tháp Pagoda is a quite untouched pagoda and it has a big architecture scale of North Delta.the architecture of the pagoda is mainly the internal attack with outside support style. All the monuments face the South, traditional architecture of the Vietnamese. The pagoda is balanced in the centre area but very natural in the surrounding area.

Chua But Thap is hidden away in a very seclusive and rural part of the Bac Ninh province. I don't think the temple is currently active because I don't see any sign of monks and worshipers, but rather is displaced as a living museum. Regardless, Chua But Thap is definitely a rare gem, exemplary architectural work of Vietnamese Buddhist temple. If you are luck to be here as a sole visitor and if there is no cheesy "Chinese film music" is played, you are in a real treat with a memory for life. The temple offers may levels of interests. The fragrance of Asian magnolia and plumeria (hoa su) fills the air, makes the atmosphere more mystic. The multiple section of the complex portrays the complexity of the temple's function. Each section dedicates to a different "branch" of religious belief. The temple also houses several important religious status, including the famous the thousand hands and eyes Bodhisattva dated from 1658. The entrance and the cemetery of the temple are particularly attractive. There is a very small fee (around $1) required to visite the "museum."

The ancient Pagoda features unique highlights of vietnamese architecture; one of few pagodas that still remain the original appearance during highs and lows of the history.
You can contact the Hanoi Bicycle Couchsurfing, as they sometimes organize bike trip to the Pagoda: you will track along the vivid and lively countryside - typical of northern Vietnam countryside.
There are no restaurants and cafes near the Pagoda, there are just a few of local people selling vegetable or some kind of fruits, incense, flowers for people who makes the offer to Buddha.
Find peaceful and quiet time every times I've been there.

A very beautiful and peaceful Pagoda set in a very rural area. Well maintained and partially rebuilt and dates back to the 17th. Century. This is worth the visit.

What a fabulous place - here is where Buddhism was first introduced to Vietnam-so much history and so many ancient relics and religious statues -including one extremely large Buddha currently being restored.
Don't miss visiting - we did when returning from Halong Bay to Ha Noi.

The history of this Pagoda is nearly 700 years ago but it was completely finished building in 17th century, which is more than 400 years ago. In short, you will love the Pagoda if you are an ancient architect addicted like me. The story is very interesting, the place is in a rural area of Bac Ninh province (nest to Hanoi) which is very peaceful and quite. You will for sure love the place.
