It is lovely, particularly at the Intercontinental "Sunset Bar" for an evening drink as the sun sets (logically). I wouldn't think about swimming in the lake, but there is no odour.

West Lake is a beautiful area which I believe is the area where the western expats live. lots of places to eat whatever cuisine you desire. Grab a coffee and sit by the lake like we did. It was lovely.

I was there in my second last day. I was told it’s far away from the city so I put this place aside, however, it’s a quiet place without motor bikes. Besides, there are a lot of good hidden restaurants which has never reported in the trip adviser. And, there are lot of bars and café along the west lake.... More

Great lake for a night walk to see the west side of the city away from the busy traffics and enjoy restaurants on the boat or visit the Chu Tran Quoc in the afternoon (entry fee)

Actually lake is very small but this is a very cozy area where you can spend time alone or with friends. Even when its raining.

Very-very polluted, but worth going just to see the pagoda, better early in the morning to see locals fishing and excercising. Can go walking there.

Nice walk, nothing spectacular but pleasant enough especially at nightfall when the natives come out to stroll and eat at the various lake side kiosks etc
