For any trip to Hanoi, this is a must visit site. We went with a guide arranged by BuffaloTours who was extremely knowledgeable.

A wonderful introduction to the peoples of Vietnam - very well done displays and signage? Well worth time 1-2 hours to tour. The reconstructed "villages" of various ethnic regions were most interesting.

We visited about two weeks ago and really enjoyed. It's a small museum, so easy to see in 1-2 hours max. Great overview of culture and ethnicity in Vietnam. We visited just before going to Sapa, and that helped us have more background.

Ditto. I went with Gate1 travel also and the signs are in English so you do not require a local guide. Save your money and enjoy the delicious food after your walk around!
