Entering this majestic church is like walking into 1886, as little has changed since it first opened its doors.

I was there on June 5, 2022. The church is sooo fabulous which is not that far from Hilton Hanoi Opera. I joined the morning massing 08.30 AM ( Vietnamese language) it was such a meaningful time spending with catholic people there.

Although only open now Saturday & Sunday. It is a very impressive building built originally by the French. But now only approximately 10 % of the population are Catholic.

The cathedral looks quite different now to the earlier photos! It is undergoing some kind of work on the outside, so looks cleaner/painted.

Inside it was quite dark - few lights on. At 1630 it appeared close to closing. But still seems quite spectacular. Atmospheric.

Nice Vietnamese mass version on 25 December. Pleasant experience with 99% locals. You feel welcome. Pity the cathedral is under renovation outside.

I went here before the pandemic - After cooling off in Train Street, I took a Grab scooter again and went to Saint Joseph Cathedral. The cathedral is named after Saint Joseph which is the patron saint of Vietnam. This roman catholic church has a Neo-Gothic Style that resembles the Notre Dame De Paris. Numerous shops and boutiques are surrounding this huge cathedral which is worth a visit. Unfortunately, I have a limited time touring around the city as I've to go back to Manila late that night.

A beautiful and historic architecture, that needs to be seen during the day and night.
Its simply beautiful. Remember you need to see it twice, one in the day and the other at night. There are a lot of eateries, coffee joints and pubs nearby. You can see them in the panoramic pic.

The church was lovely during Christmas period. There were decorations outside and the streets around were lit up. A must visit as the inside was pretty as well.

The cathedral was named after Joseph, the patron saint of Vietnam and Indochina.
Construction began in 1886, with the architectural style described as resembling Notre Dame de Paris. It was one of the first structures built by the French colonial government in Indochina when it opened in December 1886. It is the oldest church in Hanoi.
