Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It is established on the base of a minuscule market at Vuon Dao Street. It is probably the largest and most modern shopping center in Halong City. It is located right at the bay on an elevated platform and it is always crowded with the customers mostly visitors and rich loclals. Almost every time one can feel a freshly wet breeze outside the Mall.

Quite touristy and commercial. Make sure you head to the back of the main hotels in BaiChay to see where the locals eat, and get more authentic food. Worth a visit, but probably not somewhere to spend a whole heap of time.

I was GRANDPAcking in the Halong Bay area for 3 weeks and stayed in Bai Chay / Halong City for 4 nights.
There is nothing endearing about Bai Chay.
There are no decent restaurants nor decent bars.
There is nothing to do and no-where to go.
This is merely a run down area full of budget hotels servicing travellers as they come and go from their Halong Bay cruises.
Even then, the cruises are over-priced.
If you want a cruise, I suggest that you head to Cat Ba Island.
The hotels are just as cheap, there are nice restaurants and bars, it has a nice harbour setting, and the cruises are cheaper and go to nicer places.

I am living and working in Bai Chay now for more the 2 years now .
Every week you can discover new beautiful places where people who only come here for a couple of days or weeks will never come and will never know that they even excist !
Ask local people where these places are ? No because they dont know , they grew up here so they dont what you like .
For them its a normal place to visit in the weekends or even during the week .
Bai Chay or Hongai , on both sides of the bridge there are beautiful places to go !
I am never leaving this area .

A portion of the bay splits the city into two very different parts connected by both a bridge and a cable car ride. The cable car ride goes across the bay to what has now evidently become a symbol of modernity in modernity in developing Asia—a ferris wheel. The bay itself is a UNSCO World Heritage site. Tours are available from the market side. One side has most of the shops frequented by residents including the Commercial Center, anchored by a hybrid flea market/mall with 2 ½ stories of open stalls that have clothing, electronics, lacquerware, souvenirs, and assorted dry foods/snack foods. The other side is a developing resort area with numerous hotels (and a large number still under construction), a casino and a huge Six Flags/Disney style theme park that has some sections open but still under construction. There is a large white sand beach, but the high temperature during our visit was I8 C (64 F). Cabs and other forms of transport are everywhere and relatively inexpensive. Be prepared---on the traditional market side, not everyone takes US dollars. If you are much outside of the immediate area of Halong market, you will need Vietnamese currency. The good news is that most of the cab drivers do take dollars, but be sure to ask and negotiate price before you ride. We totally overestimated the time needed. It took us about 45 minutes to conclude that the area had little to offer us.
