Exciting weekend for car and go-kart racing
Sep. 2018
If you're resident in Pattaya, or even Bangkok, and also a motor racing fan, then a visit to the Bira Circuit is recommended to get the pulse racing. The venue is a 30-minute drive south-east of Central Patttaya, on Highway 36, and boasts 2 circuits, one for cars and bikes, and another for go-kart racing. 2.4 kilometres in length, it's more suitable for bikes and economy / family-sized tin-tops, but perhaps a little short for larger capacity and faster racing cars. On my first visit, the modest THB 100 daily entrance fee provided 6 races for each of the 2 days (Saturday & Sunday), beginning 10 am. until 5.30 pm. 10 of the races were for tin-tops, and the remaining 2 for fearsome, full-race Chevrolet Camaros. Practice days were on the previous Thursday and Friday. Attendance appeared quite low and very easily accommodated by the one and only grandstand. On the positive side, lunch time and the end of the day allows entrance to the pit area where you can photograph the cars, drivers, crew and pretty sales promotion girls in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. It's possible to walk around half of the circuit, and I would recommend the first corner after the grid & main straight, where there's a tricky bend with adverse camber which doubles back to the next bend, a hairpin, where you can also spectate from. On the negative side, facilities are fairly rudimentary, especially food services. Unless you sit in the covered grandstand all day, take an umbrella (for shade or rain), a mat and a folding chair to watch the action in relative comfort.

Great circuit and next door is a fantastic go kart track. Really nice row of shady trees to sit under and a good grand stand.

Normally maybe less than 50 people come here to watch the sponsored cars. The food court is not worth visiting and the updates if there is going to be a race or not is not sure. I have come two times when it said it should be a race and both times it was wrong info.

This circuit is a bit run down but makes up for itself by the passion of the local drives, live bands and some very pretty models covering the bonnets of the racing cars. Mainly saloon cars when I went, plus a big Ko Kart track too. Close to the Siam Plantation golf course.

About 15 min from Pattaya itself to the Circuit. Went to give a support for a friend taking part in the Go-kart race over the weekend. Its quite a good track as we went to inspect around the track. Tarmac was fine and smooth, with a few good and sharp turn or corners. As i noticed, there is motorbike cum motorcar race track behind the go-kart circuit, along with a shooting range for firearms. Maintain to get a few shoots at the target for myself from a kind Thai local shooter. On a smaller note, the food hawkers are situated under the tree without a proper place to sell their food and drinks, which at this time of the season is not so hygienic during the pineapple season with so many flies around. Paddock and pit lane areas are well organized since the track itself is CIK-FIA sanctioned and approved.
