- Emanuele ScagnettiRome, Italy562 contributionsEach Buddha is worth a massThe giant Buddha can be reached after a quiet walk in a public park in Pattaya. You reach the feet of the Buddha via a large staircase flanked by 2 long golden dragons. All around there are 2 rows of Tibetan bells which must be rung for good luck. Once you reach the top, the majestic golden statue opens up in front of you. Around it other smaller statues dedicated to the days of the week. For a few baths you can free up a bird cage to wash your carma a little. Always with some change you can try your luck by testing your aim, throwing the coin into the Buddha's navel or trying to keep the coin standing on the large stone under the pagoda. Also highly recommended for panoramic shots. We recommend visiting after 4pm when the heat makes the climb easier.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 February 2024
- Baylane61Huntington Beach, California403 contributionsGorgeous Big BuddhaWe took a 4 hour private tour for our group of 5. The Big Buddha Temple was our first stop. The Budha statue is tall and at the center at the end of a walking path with many steps. There are several other Buddha statues in the area too. At the back, the view of Pattaya city is great. The Big Buddha Temple is a must visit place in Pattaya.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 14 April 2024
- SiddiM186 contributionsThe Big Buddha Viewpoint in Pattaya, located on Pratumnak HillThe Big Buddha Viewpoint in Pattaya, located on Pratumnak Hill, offers one of the city's most breathtaking panoramic views. Overlooking Pattaya Bay and the bustling city below, the viewpoint is adjacent to the Big Buddha Temple, known for its towering 18-meter golden Buddha statue. Visitors ascend a staircase flanked by naga serpents to reach the summit. The viewpoint provides a serene escape from the city's hustle, with a tranquil atmosphere ideal for reflection and photography. It’s a favored spot for both tourists and locals, especially at sunset, capturing the vibrant beauty of Pattaya’s skyline and coastline.Visited June 2024Travelled with familyWritten 17 June 2024
- Cokol02128Meckenheim, Germany767 contributionsBig BuddaIt's pretty special. Not only the Big Budda alone, but also the way there. I chose to walk through the already landscaped park. The effort is rewarded with a good view and of course the Budda itself. The small circular route around the statue is also nice.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten 8 August 2024
- Nikki RWarwick, United Kingdom36 contributionsGreat! Worth a visit!Great place to visit for an hour or so. Free to visit. You can walk up the steps straight to the big Buddha. The steps are shallow steps, so it didn’t feel like you were climbing a mountain at all even in 32C heat. There are 7 statues depicting the different days of the week set around the big Buddha that are lovely to look at. There is shade to sides of the main complex and by the seating behind the Buddha (where you can take in the city views). Pleasant to walk around, calm environment and a lovely quiet place away from the hustle and bustle.Visited October 2024Travelled with familyWritten 27 October 2024

Amazing view. Very pretty temple. I think the trinkets you could buy were a little overpriced. I came across a night market later on and could find the same items for a less expensive price.

Use an hour one afternoon to go to a place with peace and quiet (though you will find one Chinese tour group after the other). See the 9 Buddhas of Thailand, and enjoy the beautiful view of Jomtien and Pattaya.
Walking up there can be a bit strenuous, so go by grab, taxi or songthaew. The walk from the parking lot to the main Buddha is easy consisting of only 40 small steps

When in Pattaya do not miss this one. Many prebooked packages donot take you here , you can ask your hotel manager to book a local package for the city which includes few beautiful points including this one. Do not miss it. Its very very beautiful.

We recently visited the Big BuddhaTemple in Pattaya Thailand. As you climb the stairs you will get a great look at the beautiful main statue. After you reach the top you’ll see several other smaller statues that are indeed a sight to see. The whole temple area will take less than an hour to tour. It is definitely worth a visit but keep in mind that it is a tourist attraction. It is free to visit but Donations are how they keep it open.
If you go please remember it is a Temple. Dress appropriately and keep children under control.
You can get there by taxi or tuck-tuck from Pattaya Beach for 250 Thai baht or 5 usd. I recommend that you have your driver wait for you as transportation back isn’t readily available. You might have to wait for up to an hour for a ride.

The temple and the Buddha statues were incredibly breathtaking and we were amazed. Everything felt holy and so beautiful. But the tourists there ruined so much. Arguing with the staff about their clothes, when they had on too revealing shirts and to short shorts.
It was horrible being there with all the tourists and seeing them being so disrespectful with all the pictures and poses around the Buddha statues also..

We went in the first half of the day, but it was already hot. In short runs we reached the park at the bottom of the hill where the Big Buddha (BB) is located. Then they walked up along the side of the road following the buses. This was a mistake: there is a path nearby in the shade of trees, we went down it correctly when we walked back. There are many buses. There are a lot of tourists. Why they all came here is unclear. Perhaps they are all Buddhists. BB himself wasn’t very impressive: maybe the heat made it difficult to feel the high spirituality of the moment. Tourists buy souvenirs, make all kinds of offerings, and constantly take photographs. Point of View, by the way, is also so-so: very urban and chaotic. I recommend sitting in a shady park: after the heat it’s a pure thrill.

On top of a hill.. 10 years ago. Perhaps the highest vantage point at that time. Fast forward to October 2020.. And this sanctuary has become lost in the urban sprawl that is Pattaya today.
Good views from the top on a clear day. No entrance fee. Several statues and little shops to purchase what ever religious items devotees may require.
At the bottom of the stairs there are some basic shops for drinks and snacks.
The stairs are an easy climb.. But i did not see any wheelchair signs or ramps for people that required mobility assistance.
Glad i got to check it off my list.
Would i recommend this site... Not so sure... I have seen other places nearby that has made a far greater impression.
The choice is yours ultimately.

Like every Thai Temple you have all your statues to see, pray to, and have a chance to get a blessing from a monk.
It’s really impressive walking up the steps to the Big Buddha Statue, and behind the statue itself a great sight to see when you go up on a clear sunny day of the city. Extra points for a good cool breeze if you are so lucky to experience.
Free to visit, at least pay respects, and donate to support.

This Bid Buddha statue could be seen from my hotel (Unique Regency Hotel) where I was staying so with the help of the hotel shuttle bus service I visited this statue on one of the evenings. Really nice and peaceful place and excellent views. That's why they call it the Big Buddha Hill instead of Pratamnak Hill, I guess ;-)

The actual Buddha is stunning but the was it is situated with a hodgepodge of other statue, merchandise, and tables and such that seemed to have no rhyme or reason.
The statues need context for visitors. I learned nothing at this exhibit which is a shame as I hoped to get some insights to Buddhism. It’s a big missed opportunity to educate and share the positive message Buddhism expounds.

We are a family of 4 and looking forward to visit Sactuary of Truth, Art in paradise, Big Budha temple, Jomtein beach and back to hotel.
Which is the best and economical taxi we should take and how to book it?
Written 28 May 2019
YOU Won't be able to complete all in one go. Divide it into 2 days Big Buddha Pattaya viewpoint and jomtein beach. Take private tuk tuk from outside hotel road and it will charge you for Big Buddha somewhat between 100-130 baht for 1 way and Pattaya view point is just 500 mtr.
Day 2 sanctuary of truth and art in paradise.

I have a family of 4 with 2 kids ( 10 & 12 yrs old ) , we are staying at A-One royal cruise hotel on beach road. I would like to know what is the best way to visit Big Buddha , should I take a taxi or is it doable with baht bus ? I would also like to know what time of the day is best to visit , pls note that I have a 6 PM Alcazer show already booked for the same day .
Thanks,

Hi. I went with a private driver. But there were buses there. If you go with a private driver you can leave once you’ve finished your visit there. We were there around 9.30 am. It wasn’t quite busy. But still easy to walk around and up the steps to the Big Buddha and lookout. You have to take your shoes off before 10 am and after 4 pm
There are a lot of stalls there Selling souvenirs, clothing ,, sarongs All sorts of things. It was really good
Hope this helps

How to reach big Buddha from LK royal suites hotel Pattaya ... thanks
Written 19 November 2017
About half hour walk or 10 minutes by motor bike taxi. Taxis are not metres in Pattaya. So you could try the 10 baht bus going up Soi Buakao or walk to baech road and get a baht bus there. Take a baht bus from South Pattaya rd to Pratumnak and then walk. A taxi would be 200 baht each way and not worth using.

if we go to big buddha by motorbike, then we want to go to pattaya view point, which one better:
1. using motorbike from big buddha to pattaya view point, OR
2. just walking from big buddha to pattaya view point, after finished, walking back to big buddha where i parked the motorbike.
anyway, is there any motor bike parking space in big buddha? thank you very much.....
Written 23 October 2017
Do either. I walk but if you are tired use bike. Plenty of parking spaces ..no problem. Both the areas you mention are worth a visit so go to both.
