About
This bustling night market—possibly Chiang Mai’s largest—has various stalls selling street food, carvings, antiques, clothing, and even furniture. The market is a favorite spot among bargain hunters because prices are not fixed. This is also a great place to try spicy street food amidst other Northern Thai specialties. Best-selling food highlights include pad thai, mango sticky rice, and crispy spring rolls. Join a street food tour for insider tips on where the best bites are, but if you plan to just roam around here, don’t miss the nearby Kalare Night Bazaar as well. – Tripadvisor

- James INew York City, New York573 contributionsBe PatientA good place to stop by if looking for some souvenirs, but do not jump on something the first time you see it. Many stalls sell the same merchandise and the prices and quality vary. Almost everyone gets will haggle a bit as well.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 March 2024
- Neale FAlbufeira, Portugal104 contributionsWell worth a visit! This bustling night market is well worth a visit when you're in Chiang Mai. From a vast selection of food available, to locally produced souvenirs, it is temptation gone wild! The market spills out onto the street with hundreds of stalls lining the main road, so allow yourself at least 3 hours to browse and eat. Be adventurous!Visited February 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 March 2024
- Blair TLantzville, Canada145 contributionsHuge market with great food!Fantastic street food and tons of souvenirs. The market covers several blocks. Many of the shops offer similar items so it's easy to haggle for best pricing when you compare items from shop to shop. We went here three nights in a row for dinner and browsing the shops.Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 April 2024
- macedonboyGlasgow, United Kingdom186,766 contributionsGood Night Market for SouvenirsThis is probably the biggest night market in Chiang Mai, although it also seems to merge into other night markets including the sheltered Kalare Night Market. There's hundreds of stalls, mostly selling the usual stuff you can find in almost any other Thai market. There are some gems there though. Several of the stalls belong to artisans who make souvenir items themselves.Visited April 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 20 April 2024
- grunter42207 contributionsMassive but same sameLargest market I have ever seen, covering blocks and blocks. Literally hundreds and hundreds of stalls, but largely selling the same old cheap souvenirs. Some good food options and if you look hard enough, there are some talks selling goods that are out of the ordinary. Well worth a visit just for the shear size of itVisited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 6 May 2024
- ぴろーしきSeto, Japan9,477 contributionsA typical night marketThis is a night market that is held every night along Chang Klan Road in the new town. Our hotel was in the old town, so it was a little far away. The first day we arrived, we went to the Sunday market, so we went after that, so it was pretty similar, but it's good that it's open every day.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten 26 May 2024
- MarkLichteveldVenlo, The Netherlands152 contributionsNice market with tasty snacks!Very nice market. Of course lots of knickknacks, but also different eating areas with live music and very tasty and varied snacks. The artists are also fantastic, we had a personal painting made and we could pick it up the day after! Nice atmosphere!Visited July 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 3 August 2024
- Helle JensenCopenhagen, Denmark13 contributionsGreat place there is every one to visit!Chiang Mais nightmarket is generally a good place where there is the possibility of Shopping of all things at cheap prices. At the nightmarket you can find everything from bags to jewelry to handmade wooden figures. There's nothing you can't find in this Point of Sale. There is also the possibility to buy street food, but we did not try because it looked too “street” to us :) There are stands for all sides and you can buy a lot of good things. The sellers are not too close which is nice when there is not so much space between the stands. It’s a good idea to stick with the Awards, and sellers almost always agree to a much cheaper price than the one they suggested to start with. Overall, the nightmarket is a place that is everyone to visit!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 7 August 2024
- RafflesiaWorld600 contributionsThe vibrant MArket of Chiang MaiThis is a place to go, definitely! Full of energy, good vibes and amazing street foods options, it is very well worth it a everyday visit! Great place to purchase local products from farmers and thai clothes, as well as a good place to purchase eletronic devices or other equipments. Don't forget to bargain the prices as you will get discounts most of the times. Great place to buy a gift for your friend or relative.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 14 November 2024
- MadfoxPanjim, India26 contributionsChiang Mai Night MarketThe Chiang Mai Night Market is huge and great to explore on foot. There is a plethora of food options at an affordable price. The street hawkers maintain the hygiene and cleanliness. The souvenirs available with the hawkers are better priced than Bangkok and Phuket.Visited December 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 January 2025

I thought Chinatown would be so-so but very good. Tons of food, clothes and then many restaurants nearby (Japanese samurai being the best). Just across the river bridge is a superb temple lit up every night like a jewel. But food, clothes, jewellery, get your nails done. One the bridge Sai Pang restaurant is nearby - more expensive but great singers for old and Chinese songs.

The clothing and merchandise stalls weren’t particularly anything special and it can get very crowded, but we just came for the food, which was incredible. We also went to a night market in Ko Samui but the food was quite poor - mostly reheated and lacking in flavour. Everything we got from the Night Bazaar was made fresh and tasted great. The prawn gyozas, in particular, were outstanding.
There was also a singer/guitarist playing covers of western hits and you could get a cheap, ice cold beer to enjoy with your food. There were so many options as well. It’s almost a shame we only ventured in twice in five days.

To Chiangmai night bazaar is just a long collection of styles of your typical cheap tourist stuff in the food court with that the mediocre food. If you’re interested in the night market try to get to Chiang Mai on Sunday and go to the real nightmare. That’s one of the best in the world.

The Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai is a bustling and lively market that is a must-visit destination for travelers to the city. It is open every evening and offers a wide range of products, including clothing, accessories, handicrafts, and souvenirs.
The market is particularly famous for its range of beautiful textiles and traditional Thai handicrafts, such as wood carvings, ceramics, and silverware. Visitors can also enjoy a variety of street food and snacks from vendors throughout the market.
The atmosphere at the Night Bazaar is vibrant and colorful, with street performers and musicians adding to the ambiance. The market can get quite crowded, especially on weekends, but it is generally a fun and enjoyable experience.

did not enjoy it at all. It felt too much like a giant tourist trap to be enjoyable. That sentence makes me sound like one of those travelers who avoids all things touristy at all costs, which is not true. Greg and I like to do the tourist stuff, because it is often popular for a reason. Unfortunately, this market was just too much. All the vendors are incredibly aggressive, and they are all selling the same thing. The only part we actually enjoyed was the Ansuran Market Cabaret Show. For 200 baht a person you gain entry and a free drink. All of the numbers were creative and entertaining.

Very nicely done venue with lots of stands offering everything from burritos to Thai food. Live music is very good, usually playing rock or pop songs. Not the place you want to go for an authentic Thai experience.

Friday night and not much happening or open.
Although we did find a fantastic artist (Instagram @the_lovidol) who drew a fantastic picture of our dog on a tote bag. We'll worth it solely for this!

Our hotel was 1 minute away from night bazaar area. Loads of clothing stalls along the pavements every night. We enjoyed the “Phloen Ruedee” market .... it’s a food, clothing market with the Night Bazaar area with ample seating, 2 stages for great live bands & occasionally traditional Thai dancing. Good mixture of food options too. We went there most nights because of the good music.

A large area with several sub-sections and night markets. The centre has starbucks, mcdonald’s , hard rock cafe, haagan daaz and burger king, with street stalls all around. The best bit could be the more colourful, modern and livelier ploen ruedee night market

Yes, a lot of imitation items. But what's "genuine", anyways? Many US products are made in Asia! 😁 have fun shopping! Don't forget to bargain!

Hi, is the night market (the Night Bazaar near the river) in Chiang Mai open on Christmas Day? ~ Thanks everyone for your help!
Written 29 October 2017
Thank you very much for such a fast reply! :)
Written 29 October 2017
Very flexible hours. Most vendors start setting up around 4 or 5 pm. However many of the vendors have day jobs and we've seen some booth setting up as late as 7 or 8 pm.
