Nice place to while away an hour or so, disappointed that certain people felt it ok to pick up the butterflies by their wings and hold them so their kids picked them up to run around with.nobody seemed bothered but seems a lack of education .
A certain death sentence for these beautiful insects.

Nice place to spend an hour or so.

Beautiful orchids in a wonderful tropical garden setting with paths and ponds, there is also an enclosed area with butterflies.

THB 40 entrance fee and they give you a lovely orchid to wear as your entrance “ticket”.

Shop selling orchids on pendants, ear rings, broaches, all lacquered and trimmed in gold - there is a notice board explaining the process.

Nice restaurant where we had a coffee.

Having a passion for orchids and wanting to buy some more of the orchid jewellery, we decided to visit the Bai Orchid farm again after having visited it a year ago on a pervious trip to Chiang Mai.
The entrance fee was still 40 baht per person.

Although it is a relatively small orchid farm, there were definitely a lot more orchid plants in areas where there were none on our previous visit, and a lot more were in bloom (about 70% of the plants) with a greater variety of species and colours, with the Vanda orchids being the most prevalent. As the orchid plants are quite low one can get an eyelevel view of the flowers, making photography, especially macro photography, a dream.

There is also a small butterfly enclosure – but unfortunately there were no butterflies to be seen as it was the wrong time of the year.

Another highlight of the this orchid farm is the jewellery they make from the orchids and they have extended the range since our previous visit with the new gold coated items ranging from small orchids to grains of rice and small fern leaves, all being exceptionally beautiful.
All the items – pendants, pins, pendant and earring sets and even hair clips – were still priced exactly the same as a year ago with the gold edged orchid pendent on an adjustable chain still priced from 480 baht to 750 baht for a very large one. The newer range without a gold edging was priced a bit cheaper from 450 baht, the gold and mother-of-pearl items from 380 baht and gold coated items from 350 baht upwards.

The rest of the orchid farm is beautiful gardens with pools and streams, and a restaurant. We did not eat at the restaurant but it did appear to be quite busy during our visit.

This is defiantly an attraction for visitors with a specific interest in orchids or if you want to photograph orchids. There were also a small number of orchid plants for sale – mainly the Vanda orchids.

Let me start by saying this sweet little place cost $2 entry. So you cannot expect $100 of value. It offers good value for your money.
The gardens are lovely, there are hundreds of orchids in perfect full bloom and the butterfly section was a real blast.
We paid $50 for a driver for the day, did the elephants, the botanical Gardens and this place.
I wouldn't suggest you visit here as a sole destination, but definitely worth tacking on to a few other attractions in the area.
If you love orchids you will love this place.

This was our lunch stop after the elephant camp excursion. We were surprised at how delicious and fresh the food was. The restaurant caters to the tour groups so the buffet lunch was hot and tasty. The fresh fruit smoothies are yummy too.

Afterwards, we meandered through the orchid collection and the butterfly house.

Don't know if I would make a special trip from downtown Chiang Mai but it was a good stop if you are in the neighborhood.

Went with daughter who loves insects. We went around noon. Place was packed with tour buses and tourists (with humongous cameras). Really, a telephoto lens for a butterfly 3 inches away? This is a small attraction; the restaurant and shop are bigger than the butterfly enclosure. Entrance fee is only $1 and change and you get a small orchid to attach to your shirt. The butterflies were outnumbered by the paparazzi tourists, got moved out of the way by one's telephoto lens that must have been 18 inches long. I saw two tourists grab a butterfly's wing, not good.
The secret is to wait for the mob to finish with their shots then they all leave at the same time and you can spend some quiet time just observing the butterflies drinking the flower nectar.
The flowers were nice and colorful. The gift shop has resin coated pins and pendants of real orchids and there were tee shirts and scarves, looked nice and fairly priced. Didn't eat at the restaurant but looked like a decent place for lunch. It's 20 minutes by songtaow from Chiang Mai. 8am to 5 pm. A nice way to spend an hour, but I wouldn't go on a Saturday.
