Choices at dinner were plentiful and the food would keep coming as you would expect at a buffet. Plus the performance was okay.

Three types of seating options: on mats directly on the floor (closest to performance plus authenticity), on the floor with feet in a pit (second closest to performance), regular dining tables (good for those who have mobility issues or impairment).

What bothered me about this experience is that pricing of the buffet was kept a mystery for reasons that I can not understand. I first tried to book online at its website as we had a rather large party but pricing per person was nowhere to be found. When my second email response to the restaurant was ignored even though other parts of my questions were answered, I became wary.

Figured I would give them a chance so followed through with a phone call to ask so that we would have enough baht cash on hand. I felt like I was getting the shift and can not put it to language barriers as the reason. Finally after asking sternly I received an answer but still felt strange about why it was so hard to get a straight answer.

We went anyway. The price did not matter much to me, it was simply a need to know what I was expected to have out of pocket. The fact that there was some mystery around this did not leave me with a good feeling about the overall experience.

We booked for the dinner from the local tour operator. There are three other places that offer similar dinner. We chose this place as the guide mentioned that the performers are younger and therefore the performance would be more vibrate. Indeed the the musicians to the dancers are all very young and they are like students to me.

We were picked up at the hotel in a mini bus. It went to two other hotels to pick up other guest. You have to remove your shoes before entering the dinning area. The area was covered with mats thorugh even to the washroom. Slippers are provided at the washroom.

You may choose to sit on the floor which is nearer to the performance area or at the table. I was given a place right in the middle, in front of the performance area. They will then immediately serve you with a tray of food. The dishes were simple. There were fried chicken, curry chicken, vegetable salad, vegetables and fried bananas. Rice is provided. You could refill the dishes if you want to.

During intervals you will find people in costumes approaching you to take pictures with them. They will print out the photo and sell you for 100 baht.

The dance performances were simple and it ended around 9 p.m. We went out earlier to avoid the crowd. We were trying to ask around where to find the bus to take us back to the hotel and we met the same guide and the other guests at the entrance. We were glad that the other guest were also early so that we do not have to wait for others before the bus moves off.

We enjoyed this evening- the facilities were well-maintained, the dinner well-prepared, and the show was lovely. We appreciated the local flavor of the recessed seating and food is decent. The show was well-produced with ornate costumes and talented dancers. Service is adequate. Overall, a lovely evening.

The music and dance performances were amazing. You sit around a performance space as people deliver you a round tray of various foods in small bowls. As tourists we had no idea what the foods were and no one explained that they refill the bowls as soon as they're empty. They didn't do that for us. They also seemed to make an effort to avoid interacting with us even though we were sitting right at the front, but they only interacted with Asians in the crowd. It is certainly worth a visit but don't expect great food. 2 girls dressed in costume appear behind you suddenly and you have your photo taken for a price. You also have to pay for drinks.

Went as a family. Ambience is nice with the lights and decor. Sadly it ended there. Service was very rushed and quite impersonal. Show was Average. We didn't feel like we learnt something about Northern Thailand or Thailand overall. The food was not great either. Wife and daughter are vegetarian, and their food was unpalatable. There's such good veggie options in Chiang Mai and this was not even close. For meat eaters too, I thought the food was average at best. If you want to eat good food, don't go here. If you want to spend $60-70 per person for a 2 hour touristy event, this could be your thing!

This place is an absolute rip off. The food was disgusting and for the price it made it even worst. I highly recommend that you try a different khantoke place - the staff were very rude and not helpfull at all. When I asked them a question the actually turned their head away and ignored me. I have lived in Thailand for 5 years and this is THE WORST place I have been to in all that time. Save your money because I can assure you will be very disappointed.

I lobbied my family of 18 to go for a Khantoke dinner as it is reputed very good, cultural, etc. I deeply regret doing so.

We arrived at the Khantoke and was told to take our seat for our dinner, which was served on a round tray table called khantoke. The food consisted of fried chicken, fried pork skin, fried noodles, rice and fried bananas (do you see a theme of fried food here?). They also had some very spicy dishes that we really could not try as it fries the palate!

I consoled myself that the food is not important, but that I will enjoy the cultural show. It started out well enough when they released the lighted lanterns, and a couple of dance, but then some of the attraction in the name of fun started hitting up some audience for tips, and would not leave until they were given the money! And in one of the dance several of the dancers, on the pretext of allowing you to have your pictures taken with them went around for over 10 minutes and were basically hitting people up for tips. This just turned my stomach. I had no way to justify it to my family to stay till the end of the show, and we noticed that a lot of tour groups also left after about 30 minutes into the "show". Not one member of our group (ranging from 8 to 80) enjoyed the food or the show, and I got a lot of flack for insisting on this activity.

In the morning we participated in a tour that consisted of cooking Thai lunch with a local Lana family. The food was DELICIOUS.
We went to the Khantoke dinner expecting the same experience. The menu was the same as the one with the local family tour, but the quality and taste went to a very different level. We ended up not eating the food. The show preformers lacked experience. Many Asian and Western customers left the show early. We left at 8:30 pm and the room was getting empty even though the show still had one more hour left.

If you have travelled a lot and seen Luaus, dinner shows in different areas of the world, this one is to be avoided!
Food came out cold, staff are trying to take photos to sell you and blocking the show by standing in the way. Barely had they served you they tried to collect on the one beer they managed to serve you, there by standing in the visual path of the show. Then they went around trying to sell framed photo of you at show, blocking the show.
The show was so painfully slow that the 30+ minutes seemed like an hour and for $60+$20 for drinks, plus going out to eat afterwards as food was so bad, it was a travesty! The people sharing our table left during the show.
The following Tribal Show we opted to miss as it was clearly an effort to sell you scarves etc! We left and took a taxi out to dinner.
