About
This outdoor market is one of Bangkok's famous night markets, known for its rows upon rows of colorful tents. Here, you can check out vintage gift shops, cool bars, and other interesting locals selling clothes, accessories, and home decor. And who can forget the food? Savor authentic Thai street food like grilled skewers, fried seafood, crepes, and even fried insects, if you're feeling brave. To snap a photo of the iconic tents from above, head up to the parking house nearby. Explore the rest of Bangkok on a food or night tour, which often includes this market as a stop. – Tripadvisor

One of the bigest night market in Bangkok, full of so many good street food, such as pork satay, cheese scallop, fish ball, mango juice, ice cream, also shopping area like clothes and shoes as well. But sadly, I think this place is a bit messy, and needs to be maintain to be more tidy, it's like they don't classified their area, food area and shopping area are in the same place, i think it's better to classify the area, so that visitors can find what they are looking for easier. I also do think that they should provide a proper transportation there, because at that time i have struglled finding transportation to go back to our hotel in the rain, there are some tuktuk that we asked but they were giving us such a hard time as tourist with very unreasonable price in unfavorable situation. So at that time we did walk quite a lot to find a public transport (BTS & MRT) to go back.

I am happy to report that once again the Ratchada Train Night Market is an authentic non touristy local food/drink/shopping market like when it began back from 2013 to about 2015 or so. It has been reclaimed by the Thais and is now very enjoyable with value pricing for everything. Gone are the awful Chinese tour group hoards that completely destroyed the ambiance, their dozens of tour buses that created a nightly traffic nightmare in front of the Esplanade shopping center, and the overly crowded rush hour-like Thailand Cultural Center MRT station. I lived next to this market for 10 years and this nightly invasion was one reason why I moved out of the area in 2018. The the virus came and essentially wiped the slate clean and the reclaiming of this market by the Thais is definitely a huge benefit. I hope to god that this market can stay this way for awhile and be enjoyed by everybody and not dominated by only one group of annoying tourists.

This is a truly unique night market and certainly worth a visit. You can literally buy almost everything and anything here, from clothes, shoes, handbags, toys, textiles vintage & antique items as well as street food. One end of the markets has a string of VW vans covered in fairy lights - very pretty. For a really cool view looking over the market you can go into the old carpark located in the Esplanade Mall – Level 4. For detailed directions on how to find this location, please send me a message. Happy Exploring.

I lived very near this market from 2008 until 2018. The market itself started around 2014 and was fantastic. Not very crowded and 90% local catering to Thais. Then sometime I believe in 2017 the market along with Esplanade(which is not a tourist mall) got put onto the Chinese Tour Group Itinerary. What a total nightmare this created. Dozens of tour buses clogging traffic on Ratchada nightly. Thailand Cultural Center MRT station(which at night used to be rather quiet) became swarmed with Chinese tourists flocking to the area. The station is now more crowded at night than most of the downtown stations at rush hour. I could not take it anymore and after 10 years I moved out of the area due to this nightly invasion.
But now with this new virus and the ban on Chinese tour groups coming into Thailand - I am looking forward to returning and hopefully experiencing the market pre-Chinese invasion.

Enjoyed a great night outdoor here trying various Thai street food. Plenty of stalls here selling local food and various knick knacks. Had a great dinner of seafood followed by local fruits and desserts. Was told by my Thai friend that the crowd at the market during my visit was way down due to Corona virus. This was a bonus for me as I don't enjoy hot humid weather in outdoor places with huge crowds.

Really enjoyed this - a big and thriving night market. Well worth a visit. It’s not what I’d call a pure locals market - for example you could buy your meat and veggies there - but does offer up a good selection of food and beverages, and lots of stalls selling well produced and interesting items. It’s not your second hand or touristy tat you see elsewhere (e.g. Patpong, or floating markets).
We were there with our 10 yo, from approx 7.30pm until 10.00pm. Felt very safe, she loved it. It was busy with a good mix of locals and foreigners, young and old , and offered us a much more fun night that we would have had by going to a restaurant or staying in the hotel 😀 🇹🇭🙏

One word of advice. Go early!
Kids and I arrived at 5:15pm and enjoyed walking around the near empty market. Only half the shops were open but that was fine as a lot of places sell the same stuff.
Kids got some gifts and then we sat down for some great and well priced Ribs.
Just as we were leaving thousands of chinese tourist arrived enmass. It was bedlam and we were glad to be leaving.

Too many Chinese tourists who a in tour groups rude arrogant pushy.
Hard too look at the stalls and talk with the lovely Thai people.
Hope this virus keeps the Chinese away and frees up traffic congestion.
Other wise a good market).

The market was quiet and is quite small with quite a few empty stalls. Especially if you are looking for food there are not many stalls to choose from. We arrived at 8pm and were followed and shouted at by at least 5 people holding large menues for their sit down food area. Honestly it was quite uncomfortable.
Give this market a miss - so many better ones in Bangkok!

I want to visit Ratchada at about 17h-19h on Saturday before going to mochit bus station (to go to chiangmai) but i have a medium-size luggage, so is there any luggage storage near this market?
Written 29 October 2019
No, I don't believe there is since its an open market (outdoors). I would ask the hotel your staying if they can assist you or if there are lockers at the bus station. Sorry for the delayed replied.

Ciao, scusate la domanda stupida: ma da dove posso fotografare le bancarelle dall'alto? Ho visto delle bellissime foto delle "tende" delle bancarelle e vorrei poterlo fare anche io... qualcuno mi puo' aiutare per favore?
Grazie mille

My only suggestion would be from the mall between the market and the main road. That is the only building nearby that is significantly higher. Maybe form the window of a stor ro restaurant? If you find a spot, please tell us - Good luck

Take the metro and alight at the Thai Cultural Centre! Look for the signage to Esplanade Shopping Mall & cut through the mall to get to the night market! This is the fastest way to avoid the crowd!
