Khoa San used to have so much fun and life to it. but now it's just sad. Granted, the party ban in Bangkok hasn't helped, but almost no shops were open.

Newly renovated Khaosan Road was an event not to be missed as one of Bangkok's draw cards for backpackers. COVID had killed off all the back packers, so what was left was an odd assortment of younger Thais and older expat farangs. The street no longer has the life and character that drew people earlier. It may recover after back packers return, but not worth visiting now.

Khaosan Road has changed. Ok, they took away the bike lanes - which was a disappointment. But they cleaned up the area, and made it a bit gentrified. But then, no tourists. So basically everyone is going out of business. Maybe next year things will get better.

Different sites appeal to different people. For travelers who want to go from bar to bar meeting other foreign tourists, Khaosan is probably a good location. There are lots of open air bars, lots of bar girls, and even more foreigners. Getting there is pretty easy - any honest taxi can drop you there. Getting out of there is not so easy. Traffic is very bad -- even by Bangkok standards -- and most of the taxis there waiting to pick-up rides are crooked, charging many times the meter rate. Walk south toward the main road and use an app to request a ride via Grab or LineMan. This is not family friendly. Don't bring kids here. This area is targeted to college students, young adults, party goers, and players/singles. There are some good restaurants in the area, but the pricing is also targeted to foreigners.
