The country is in mourning and thousands are flocking here daily to pay their last respects to the king. That, on top of the throngs of tourists makes this a crowded place. It is a must see for sure, but I wish there were fewer crowds

The Golden Buddha is very impressive and it is worth your time pairing this temple with Chinatown. I did feel that there were A LOT of collection boxes at this temple, while I believe donations should be made by tourists visiting these amazing sites, perhaps the boxes here are a little over the top. Nonetheless I'd recommend this temple, the... More

Its ok if you read the story behind it. The budha itself is imposing and incredible. Completely made our of gold. The place where the temple finds itself is not that incredible given the uniqueness of the budha. Still you should come and see it.

The Golden Buddha is lovely, large and majestic. The temple offers a peaceful and serene environment for visitors. Be mindful of your dress attire however. No shorts or tank tops. Inexpensive colorful print pants are sold outside the temple for both men and women for those not appropriately dressed. There is a small but lovely gift shop where you can... More

This is definitely one of the most beautiful temples in Bangkok and the statue of the Golden Buddha is really amazing to view. Please make sure to pay a visit and you will not be disappointed.

I love this buddha and this is my second time to see him and he has moved since my last viewing. The story is interesting as he was covered with plaster to hide his gold from potential thieves. A monk noticed that the plaster was a cover. Go see this amazing buddha.

This was one of our favorite temples in Thailand. The story is amazing and the buddha is beautiful. It is over 700 years old. The temple in which it is housed is beautiful as well.

Beautiful experience visiting this temple, we even got to sit in front of a monk who prayed over us and wrapped our wrists in a sacred cloth supposed to protect you as long as you wear it. Learned a lot about how to show respect to Buddha and how to act around a monk. Very humble people and religion. Their... More

Staying in Chinatown / Yaowarat

Neighbourhood Profile
Chinatown / Yaowarat
Better known as 'Yaowarat' among locals, Chinatown is Bangkok's bustling district that never sleeps. During the day, the main street and its small alleyways are filled with a vibrant mix of colours, scents and flavours coming from the roadside restaurants and all-day markets. The real action, however, happens after sunset. Surrounded by neon lights, Thais and tourists alike flock here around dinnertime to feast on some of the best street food in town. Escape the chaos by venturing a little further from the main road and discover hidden shrines, friendly locals and daily life in its purest form.
