There is plenty of these forts around the city, but I will always have the impression that they are somehow out of place. May be of interest if you enjoy forts in general or you are in the neighbourhood.

This small fortress is located on a busy intersection of downtown Bangkok. The gate is permanently locked and small park behind is a garbage-strew lot with a menacing dog roaming around. The canal next to it is foul smelling.

Every now and then you catch a glimpse of what Bangkok was like generations ago. There are a number of forts in Bangkok - built centuries ago to defend against invaders. What is interesting about this one is that there is the remnants of a...More

The small fort itself is rather non-descript, but worth a photo shot or two. Inside the walls is a (once-thriving) community comprised of a number of old wooden teak houses. The municipal government has been trying to evict the community to establish the area as...More

If you're already visiting Wat Sraket, then the Mahakan Fort is just across the road a bit, and worth stopping for a quick look. But otherwise, don't go out of your way to come here, as there's not much to see except a few old...More

The public available part of the fort is at the road junction. Walking along the wall, many of the arch openings are blocked with planks by a community living inside. They're supposed to be evicted but still lives there till now. There's one arch in...More

The fort itself- located at walking distance from Wat Saket - is quite unspectacular, a less well restored version of Phra Sumen fort. But inside the fort you will find one of the oldest communities in Bangkok, doing traditional Thai handicrafts as Khon masks, bird...More

Nice to take a picture of when passing the fort, but I don't recommend to go out of your way to visit this place. It's rather small and there's not much else to see.
