Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

DO NOT use the luggage storage services at the station. They broke the lock off my suitcase, took my things and completely avoided any accountability and tried to pretend not to understand what I was saying. YES they don’t speak a lot of English but when you show them a lock and point to the broken zip... it’s pretty obvious. FIND other options!

If you love trains like I do ( I have worked in the railway for many years when I was younger)- this is a great place. Great atmosphere, great restaurants/cafes. I came in the evening. If I had been there a little earlier, I could have seen the reaction of Thai people when they play the national anthem. This is a great place to see that because there are so many people and you can be sure they they play the anthem here.I will be back with my camera another time

We attended the exhibition "Hua Lamphong in your eyes" held by State Railway of Thailand in mid January 2022. The theme was to watch its classic architecture and learn the history of this legendary train station that has been serving as Bangkok's main hub for over 105 years through the 10 checkpoints. Some checkpoints represent significant figures of Hua Lamphong (e.g. its classic arched roof main hall, the three headed elephant monument on the fountain in front of the station, the former hotel inside the station), while some open to the public only in the period of this exhibition (the secret passage that leads to the terrace in front of the half circular dome and its remarkable clock). We also visited and bought some cutie souvenirs at Thai train museum.
P.S. There was news that Hua Lamphong might be closed (or overshadowed) after the exhibition, yet it still operates as normal.

This station used to be the gateway to almost everywhere in Thailand. The long distance trains now begin and terminate at Krung Thep Aphiwat Central Terminal, leaving the local trains here. I have fond memories of my SE Asia travels here and the booking offices. Sadly, the station is noticeably quieter with fewer trains. The station is connected by an underground passage to Hua Lamphong MRT Station and saves you from having to walk in the humid heat.

I've travelled up from KL to Bangkok and across to the Cambodian border on trains, sleepers to third class. They're cheap fairly reliable and convenient. This station was relatively easy to work out and well sign posted. The signs also matched up with the information on the ticket so all went well. Better than buses with maniac drivers loaded up with energy drinks.

The station has built before World War II. Many things have changed over time, such as the hotel hall in the station. was transformed into a restroom to accommodate the increasing number of travelers
But overall, the original architecture remains.
Currently, there is an MRT connecting various areas in Bangkok.
Don’t forget to grab snacks and drinks from nearby 7 eleven before traveling.

Spent a couple of hours here before boarding the 15:10 overnight train to Padang Besar. It's all here waiting for the needy traveller: coffee, pad thai, arcades, chanting monks (be sure not to sit in the 'monk only area', and other travellers looking lost wondering where to buy their tickets from. Sit upstairs grab a coffee and get you people watch on. A truly iconic train station. PS: it's not as bad as it looks; tickets are easy to buy, and the platforms are easy to find.

We took the overnight train to Chiang Mai from Bangkok. It was a great adventure. Just pack snacks and they will bring you water. We had a private car so they will come around and let out your beds for you and put them away in am. Did not get much sleep because train does stop often but it was a very cool experience.

My wife and I always took plane rides to get from Bangkok to other destinations in Thailand during our past vacations. It is convenient, but there is nothing unique about it. During our last vacation to Koh Samui, we decided to ride an overnight train to Koh Samui. Well, it isn't exactly train ride all the way to Koh Samui. As you all know, Koh Samui is an island. Getting to Koh Samui from Bangkok on a rail involves 12 hours of train ride to Surat Thani, 2~3 hours of bus ride to Seatran Ferry Docks and 1-1/2 hour ferry ride.
We got our ticket through Thailandtrainticket.com as recommended by seat61.com. There were some confusion as to which train they booked for us, but we ended up taking earlier 5 PM train. We got 1st class seats, and two seat made up a cabin, so we got a cabin for ourselves. The total cost for our transit to Koh Samui was about 1,500 Baht per person. When we stepped into the cabin, we were generally satisfied with the cleanliness of the cabin and the restrooms. There were two restrooms in the 1st class car. There were several attendants to take your dinner order, make up your bed and wake you up as the train approach the destination. You can get meals for about 150 to 200 Baht and 150 Baht for a large bottle (750 ml) Chang beer. I made a mistake and ordered two at once assuming the beer came in small bottles. Regular Chang is 6.4% alcohol, so I had a really good beer buzz by the end of my dinner in the train.
Though the bed was big enough for me, I could not get comfortable sleep as the train was constantly rocking and the cabin was too cold. The AC was blowing arctic cold air viciously and there is no way to turn it down. Through the train ride, I was half asleep and half awake.
At about 6 AM, the train unloaded us at Surat Thani Train Station. Conveniently, there was a greeter from the travel agency to guide us to the restaurant, where we waited for the bus. We could eat, wash up and ready ourselves for a round of land-sea transportation.
The bus ride was not comfortable, as the bus was an old one with very small seats. On the other hand, the ferry ride was comfortable in an air conditioned passenger compartment. We bought a van ride ticket from Na Thon Pier to our resort in Koh Samui for 250 Baht per person at the restaurant where we waited for the bus. I thought it was a smart move at the time as I did not see much transportation available at Na Thon Pier at the time. Taxis from Na Thon to Chaweng usually costs 600 to 700 Baht.
Overall, the journey was memorable experience as we do not get to ride train at all where we live. By the way, I recommend using 1st class over 2nd class, if you can afford 300 to 400 Baht. They leave lights all night in the 2nd class cars for security and the restrooms get dirty quickly as they are shared with way more people.

Just straight away come to the hualamphong station a day or two before you go and buy it from there. I recommend a sleeper train because it can be a 12 hour trip to chiang mai.
