We have been to the big Floating markets in the past but this time we decided to go to one that is more for the locals . Our Driver dropped us at the entrance near the Car park and we wandered through the Food stalls before arriving at the Canal . We did try some of the Food which although Tasty was not exceptional , prices were average . We were dissaponted to see little in the way of Traders selling their Wares from small Boats . Everything was Land Based except the Overpriced Canal Rides for which there was a fairly long wait as they were packed out . We were entertained by a Busker who was quite good , Cold Beers were not too overpriced at 90 Baht . The Canal ride was expensive but you do get to Feed the Monster Catfish which inhabit the Canal . They make several stops at different Traders along the Canal where they sell their overpriced Wares and there is a 20 minute stop at a small Temple before retuning to the Market . Dissapointed

I have a dire feeling it is all just another tourist trap, as usual in Thailand. Proper disclosure: I went there loooong time ago (1996) but just recently viewd my photos, and with the age shrpenned experisenced view, I can tell you now it is all just a scam. I have a feeling all thoses boats feeled with produce are not going anywhere, they get paid by the tourists' agents to be part of the show. Then the boats line up in the dock to sell the tourists, it is all the same old worn out souverinrs at high prices. I am so tired of that country, everything there was so fake, brutal, vilant, certainly against tourists, but not only, in between themselves as well.

The floating market actually has no floating market. Let me explain better: whether you arrive by taxi bus or on foot, what you will find is a local market on the mainland partially overlooking the canal which offers various types of items, from souvenirs to local products, from plants, flowers and seeds to various gastronomic kiosks, all very nice and well looked after. You will also find a ticket office for a boat tour through the canals (a tour which at a cost of 99 baht includes a sail through the canals and a 10 minute stop to visit a Wat) but there is no floating market.
So don't expect wooden boats selling food or crafts.
The visit to the market is worth it for the quiet and relaxed atmosphere that you can breathe, unlike other markets, both land and floating.

Inside the market there is a very informal massage space, excellent value for money for the service offered (200bath for an hour of Thai or foot massage

This market bustles with activity and is clean and full of mostly locals. Go hungry and enjoy the many food choices there are on offer. I had a one hour massage for $6USD. And if you’ve not yet been in a longboat through the canals, book it when you arrive as it may be a while to get your turn if you’re looking for a private boat experience. We taxied there from central Bangkok for about $5USD with tip. It’s one of the closest floating markets to the heart of the city so we chose this one over the touristy larger markets further out.

Don’t waste your time with any tuk tuk drivers claiming to take you here!! The whole thing is a tourist scam to try and get you to pay for private boat trips to the floating markets which cost over 1000THB. We had several drivers tell us the only way to get there was by boat but the easiest way to travel there is by bus. We travelled from near Khao San Road and caught the 79 bus straight to the floating markets which cost 15THB each and took around 30mins. If you’re struggling to find directions just download RomeToRio app and it will give you different routes that you can possibly take!! Saved our trip! Once we were at the floating markets we had a lovely time! Again, don’t waste your time with private boat tours as there is a boat tour on offer when you get here which sets off at different times during the day. This cost us 99THB each for a 1 hour trip where they took us to feed fish along the river then stopped at a temple before heading back whilst taking in the views along the way. We even saw an otter and some type of lizard, not sure what kind but it was big. Altogether a good trip out, our tour guide was funny too!

This is all about getting as much money as possible out of your pocket without any boundaries. Becarefull before you take a picture when they hand you an animal because they force you to pay 1500 bath. Your boat driver will just not proceed. Looking at all the pictures you expect a lot of boats with fruits etc. But it is all the same souvenirs you see everywhere and a lot of food.
I would suggest you go somewhere else if possible. It is just no worth it.

We took a driver (no guide) to visit the floating markets and the railway markets.

This ended up being a good if little disappointing day out. It’s definitely further than you think and the hour and a bit promised was nearer 2hrs to get there.

The boats are priced per person not per boat and for a family of 5 therefore expensive.

They choose which market stalls to two you to and the price of the (very standard) fare is significantly more expensive than any other market but the chosen enjoyed the experience. This is a way of life that has obviously died out (you pass a Costco on the way) and is therefore kept alive just for tourists. The water quality is poor and other than a glimpse of a kingfisher absolutely no wildlife at all. The waterways are mostly quiet but on the main ‘street’ it was very busy and the air quality from all the engines very poor indeed.

Probably not worth it with some dubious animal (exploration) add ons that we declined.

The railway market was worth a visit on the way home and everyone was waving to the passengers as the train came and stalls were rolled up. Not worth a visit on its own but broke up the journey home.

Probably should have passed on this but the kids had an ok day out.

You take a boat along a canal that actually smells like a canal at times. Around it you can see the dwelling partly on the water. No markets. Only in one place did they sell some Christmas food for fish - so you could feed the fish. They reach the shrine where they have a mummy - a withered monk. There you can light the incense sticks and you go back. The highlight of the fun is when the guide repeats the banana over and over again. As a sign that there were a few banana trees by the shore. Oh, and there was one more fun when the boatman smashed the boat as fast as he could. There were no floating markets and I guess I wasn't the only one who was disappointed. What bothered me the most was the lost time - before we got there, before we waited for the boat, etc., etc. We could use it better. At least we saw the dry monk.

A very colorful place. We were there on a weekday, almost no one was working. But the boat was removed. Boat to the neighboring market along the canal. Picturesque! 20 minutes there, 20 minutes walking around the market and 25 minutes back.
Prices:
1000 THB 1-4 people
1100 THB 5 people
1200 THB 6 people.

On weekends there seems to be a large boat for 69THB per person, but we haven’t checked.

We had a lovely morning wandering around the markets and trying Thai specialities for a very good price. There was live music, and plenty of food/drink options. We got a taxi here and back. Don’t be fooled by the tuktuk drivers who try and get you to book a private boat tour, pay for the 99baht pp boat tour instead when you arrive at the market.
