We were advised by the hotel conscierge to get taxi to river and take a boat to the temples etc, taxi fare was 150baht reasonable but the guy at the boathouse wanted 800 baht each, we ended up paying 500 baht each 2000 for the four of us, but we still were obviously conned as after reading up it should... An interesting trip up the river and a backwater Canal. Guides English undecipherable and hopeless to explain what we were looking at. On the way back we changed boats to a barge where we were given a variety of fruit and drink, including alcohol if you wanted it. Overall poor tour, could have gone up in hired boat for fraction... Try the day cruise. Night cruise is more about dinner and partying on the cruise. You cant discover the River side sights which is the very objective. Moreover, like Singapore, Bangkok river side is not as glittery. Day time cruise is better. You may consider skipping this.

This is a long boat with a car motor balanced on a long propeller shaft. It's noisy but fast and handles the chop of the main river well. Then it's into a lock with another 6 or 7 of these and you enter a some beautiful tranquil waterways of the main drag in another world for a good 30 mins.... More

Not to be missed is a boat ride in a long tail boat. These thing go like the clappers, have huge truck engines with a long shaft to reach the water. The boatmen must have industrial deafness, is all I can say. The canals have much to see, including the back of the palace where you can see the reclining... More

We were staying at the Marriot Courtyard and asked one of taxi's outside whether they knew a good river cruise. He took us to a riverside place down a small soi. We were led to a very grumpy lady sitting at a small table who told us it would cost 4000 baht for a cruise. I was shocked at this... More

The cruise was on the white orchid. The food was fantastic with a great choice to choose from. Staff were outstanding. During this point there was no entertainment on board due to the passing of the King. This however, did not detract from the experience.
