About
Our Courses are conducted in the morning to take advantage of cooler outdoor temperatues for shopping, prep and cooking. Markets open early in Bangkok, as perishable foods are at their peak. Food markets are a great way to introduce students to Thai culture and lifestyle. Your guide will explain about Thai tastes and customs, local meat, fish, and produce, finding unique ingredients and, of course Thai-style bargaining! Touring a traditional outdoor market provides insight both into how Thai people approach cooking and how many spend their day. These lessons are as important as those in the kitchen.Students are taught to cook complete dishes from scratch, with traditional utensils and techniques. Preparing curry paste is one of the most unique and important aspects of Thai cooking, as most of the herbs and spices are ground together in a stone mortar before being cooked in a variety of ways.

Neighbourhood: Silom
Despite the lack of any major tourist attractions, this lively neighborhood is a favorite of many. Whether it's the (somewhat naughty) nightlife of Soi Patpong, the various handicraft night markets or the plethora of dining options that tickle your fancy, a night out in Silom is a must on every itinerary. It's worth a stop during daytime, too: join office workers on a quest to tasty street food during lunch and shop at Silom Complex for a great mix of Thai and international stores. After a day of strolling around the congested sidewalks, a visit to Silom's Lumphini Park, Bangkok's answer to NYC's Central Park, is a welcome change of scenery.

- Linda NWashington DC, District of Columbia28 contributionsYou'll learn (and eat) a lot at this wonderful beyond-the-basics cooking classReally excellent class. We had already taken another Thai cooking class back in the states, so we wanted to go beyond the basics. This school is attentive to every detail and whether you're a complete beginner or experienced, you will learn a lot - and eat a lot! We started with a market trip that was fun and educational. Then we prepared, cooked and ate Tom Yum Soup, Pad Thai, papaya salad, chicken curry with rice and sticky rice with fresh sweet mango. We learned how to grind our own curry paste, and about all of the ingredients that go into different styles of Thai curry. The instructor was comfortable enough in English to joke around with us. It was also a tremendous value for the price. Highly recommend!Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 24 January 2024
- Mac L2 contributionsFun times and tasty experienceFun experience, tasty food and charming people. A great way to understand how Thai cuisine tastes so good. Plus everything is made fresh, with a trip to the market(morning class) to pick up the ingredients that will be used for your meal. - Shaun COrange, California23 contributionsSo Delicious, and Lots of LaughsThis class was so much fun. We laughed throughout and the food was pretty good if I do say so myself. I look forward to practicing the dishes when I get home. The instructor was such a joy to be around which helped create a welcoming environment for all of us in the class. Though most of us did not know each other with our instructor leading we all had a good time. The cooking school has a homely feel to it. If you are in the area and want to take a cooking class, this would be a wonderful option.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten 6 March 2024
- EqwineAcresToronto, Canada54 contributionsDelicious and educational experienceThe Silam Thai cooking class presented an opportunity to work in a group of eight with a local leader. Educational insight whilst shopping at the market for product was followed by clear direction and instruction on each dish. The instructor guided everyone simultaneously through preparation cooking and presentation in English. The half day course included five recipes which we deliciously got to co sure for lunch and a takeaway recipe book of all recipes done at the school. Facilities were clean and thankfully air conditioned. The waiting, prep, and dining areas were air conditioned. We came away with a better understanding of the Thai cuisine and its culture. The instructor was very sweet and engaging and very accommodating for take out of the extra dishes that we could not consume.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 March 2024
- Prab RSurrey, Canada10 contributionsAmazing experience!!Absolutely worth your time to spend just a few hours at this cooking school. From the moment we walked in we knew that this would a time to remember. The staff and instructors are amazing and fun! Not one second was boring. The food was incredibly delicious...go on an empty stomach cause you make and eat a lot! The school itself is very well organized and very affordable. I can't wait to go back to Thailand just so I can go to another cooking class here. Different menus each day. Even if you're not a cook at home, try this out just for the experience of it. We were a group of 7 flight attendants...and we have traveled the world quite a bit so trust us when we say this was gooood. They have different floors for each different group so it's very private if you like. Thank you Silom Thai for an experience that we all will talk about and share with our colleagues, families and friends for years to come. I am already looking forward to my next layover in BKK!Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 27 March 2024
- Scott M7 contributionsKeep the fresh food markets alive (and bring an appetite!)Khun Toom is funny and knowledgeable. Scrumptious food. Lots of fun. A perfect way to preserve Thai fresh food markets and learn more about the delicious cuisine we mostly take for granted. Get behind it by doing a morning class. Do not eat breakfast!Visited May 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 5 May 2024

We'd originally only booked on one course at this school but enjoyed it so much that we booked to go back two days later. We ended up doing one morning class which included a tour of the local market and one afternoon class which didn't - but both were equally enjoyable. Our two tutors were absolutely brilliant - funny, informative and more than happy to answer any questions. We cooked five dishes in each class and ate some of the best food we had on our whole holiday!
Great fun. Excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Come prepared to learn how to prepare multiple Thai dishes and enjoy an exceptional meal that you helped prepare. The owner is knowledgeable, entertaining and very patient! Our class comprised two of us from the US, two from Spain, two from Germany and one from Australia. It was a great group. One of the gentlemen from Germany had attended the class 3 years ago. Our class was in the evening. It started at 6pm and lasted 2-1/2 hours. It was a great way to spend the evening. My compliments to the owner and her gracious staff.

This was my second time at this school. Last time I was so impressed with it that during this visit to Bangkok booked the class for me and my husband!
We enjoyed this cooking class very much. Our teacher was fun and lovely person. We visited local market, where we bought fresh ingredients for our dishes. She explained us all the Thai herbs and spices.
We cooked 5 dishes from scratch. We actually cooked, not just watched someone doing it. And then we ate the delicious dishes we just prepaired. My favourite Thai dish is Thom Yam and now i can cook it better than many Thai restaurants :)
In general everything is organized perfectly, school itself is very clean, beautiful and very instagrammable.
We spent a great time at school, at the end of the day recipe books and our surprise gifts were a very sweet touch.
We will come again to learn something new :)

I am a solo traveller and I thought this would be a unique experience and a great way to learn how the delicious food in Thailand is made! This class did not disappoint! It was very well organized. The teacher was very informative and also funny. The meals were exquisite. It’s shocking how simple they are but fresh ingredients and little tips they show you are the secret to quality. I would absolutely do this class again and I highly recommend it to anyone who loves food or just wants a crash course in local culture.

My wife and I took 4 kids (ages 9-11) to Silom Cooking School in December. We did the afternoon class which didn’t involve a market tour, this suited us perfectly. The cooking was brilliant fun and the pace of the class kept everyone interested, even the youngest in our group. During our session we cooked Tom Yum Goong soup, Pad Thai, Mussaman curry, a green papaya salad and mango and coconut sticky rice. The ingredients were all super fresh and the kitchen area was spotlessly clean.
As you each cook your own dish, it allowed the kids to leave out the chilli peppers which would otherwise have put them off eating the dish. As a result they were fascinated in trying what they had made and ate things that ordinarily they wouldn’t touch.
Some sharp knife work was involved and also cooking on an open flame so the younger ones in our group needed a little supervision but generally they were able to follow all the instructions and do everything independently.
We came home with a few nice gifts to remind us of the cooking school including a Thai cook book and some chop sticks - it was a brilliant afternoon’s entertainment and something we have recommended others do since we were there. It would work well for a rainy day activity in Bangkok.

We attended this cooking course during our stay in Bangkok. I really appreciated the trip to market where we picked up vegetables, herbs, etc. We got many tips from chef who lead the course. Unfortunately the course is only for 4 hours :) the time was running so fast. We enjoyed the time, had fun and cooked delicous dishes which we also ate. Just one think - some things were prepared (rice, noodles,...) so we did not try everything on 100 % but we got nice recipe book with the step by step explanation so at last it is ok. Finally I definitely recommend this place. Workplace, people everything was perfect :)

Even if you just have a passing interest in food or cooking, this is well worth taking 3 hours out of your holiday to learn how to make some classic Thai dishes.
The Silom cooking school is set over 4 floors with each floor having a prep/class room and a seperate wok room, where the actual cooking takes place. When you move between rooms, a team of people turn around the room you've just been in, so that it is ready for the next course, so you don't spend any of the time yourself having to wash up or prep the kitchen area.
Our instructor was Chin, who was very charming and had a good sense of humour.
Her instructions and information were clear and easy to follow and if there were ingredients that I wasn't keen on, then they didn't need to go in.
The school was well maintained and well organised and I would certainly recommend.

Have done a few cooking classes around the globe in my time - this was a fantastic experience.
Professional, clean cooking school with quality ingredients. Fun and personable Chef/Teacher.
Participants from around the world - a fun way to spend a morning/afternoon.
Thoroughly enjoyable experience and good value for money.
A must do when in Bangkok. Don't waste time anywhere else - Silom is the way to go.
Great little coffee shop next door too....

This review is lonnnng overdue. This is truly an understatement as I visited back in 2013. Silom Thai Cooking School was in my top most memorable experiences from visiting Bangkok. The staff were so personable and educational. The food was delicious and participants had direct involvement throughout the market excursion as well as the food preparation. The entire experience was incredibly immersive. Now, in 2023, I researched the business to see if the recipe booklet was available online (I lost my physical copy, my parents thankfully still have theirs). A DECADE later and my family still faithfully refers to this recipe booklet whilst fondly reminiscing on this wonderful experience. I can’t recommend this business enough. Cheers!

Hi do you offer pick up at our hotel/hostel or do we need to pick a meeting point and taxi to you? Im looking to book for tomorrow

Hi, We have 18 people. Can your class accommodate that? What does the menu look like?

Written 20 May 2019
Non lo so. Il gruppo è formato da varie nazionalità di persone quindi usano l'inglese come lingua comune. Non so se si possano fare classi private con qualcuno che insegni solo italiano, dovresti chiedere direttamente

Can a 11-year join the class ? What would be the course for her/him ?
Written 9 December 2018
Yes, we had two children in our class, younger than 11. They can take part in the preparation as the adults do (chopping, crushing, mixing) and they will manage their own dish; the instructions are very clear and the teacher very helpful. I'd recommend it. There's lots of information about the food/dishes as well.

Which market the school took you and can one prepackaged packet for pad Thai and other dishes
Written 25 November 2018
We went to a nearby market about 5-10 min walk from the cooking school
Not too sure about your other question. But you are allowed to pack back the food you cooked if you cannot finish them.

Each class is different based pin the number of people you have and whether or go to a market (we did not) and purchase foods. I recommends allowing 2-3 hours at a minimum. Don’t rush it and enjoy!
