A quaint garden long deserted has been renovated with the goal of revitalizing the historic site and become the place where dreams come true.Taiwan Film & Culture Association defines the core value of the Taipei Film House as "a site combining the quaint charm of a historic site and cinematography and providing a locus for creative interactions" It is hoped that this place will serve as a watering hole for local creative artists, a place where creativity takes flight. Interdisciplinary ideas may be exchanged through diverse activities including film festivals, seminars, and workshops, in order to inspire more creative thinking. It is highly expected that a brand new look may emerge through the integration of the historic site and cinematography, fusing the historical significance therein with visual arts, and thus broaden our cultural field of view and cultivate a profound sense of culture.

SPOT-Taipei Film House was once the American Consulate. It was saved from destruction by a number of civic ac tivisgts, including Canadian expatriate Curtis Smith. This fine building was completely restored and now serves as a refuge and haven for film lovers. It's in Chung Shan North Road, easy to find. Check opening hours if you plan to visit.

Haven't been to a movie here yet (they show more serious international films rather than mindless Hollywood - type productions), but we did enjoy an hour or more relaxing here over a cold drink. You can sit inside or in the garden. Believe this place was at one time the home of the US ambassador, but come anyway. It's now... More

After a raining Sunday, it was great to see a bit sunshine during the lunch time. Passed the SPOT when the sun comes out, I decided to walk-in to sit in the garden to have a coffee. Be honest, it was a great place to sit in a beautiful day where you can see the green around you. It's not... More

Located in the Zhongshan District, this is a special place where you can experience Taipei's art and indie culture. Inside the historical building, there is an art gallery and a tiny store with many unique, interesting books and items (mostly art, film, or music-related). There is also a small theatre that plays mostly local and foreign art-house/indie films. Even though... More

The only place I went to in this SPOT is the shop. I liked it, because of the variety of 'Taiwanese products' and DVDs/CDs. It's a nice walk through. I see that there is a cinema and a cafe as well. It did not attracted me to stay because it was quite small, and the view was not especially alluring... More

The cafe and cinema are nice. While the whole site area is too small. If more variety of activities can be provided , more people will be attracted.

If you have a relaxing day and wanna catch up with some new non-mainstream movies, here is the place! The ticket price is around 200NT$. I watched Woody Allen's Magic in the Moonlight. It has six screenings daily from 12:00am to 12:00pm, please check the schedule here: http://www.spot.org.tw/schedule/schedule_one.html There is a nice cafe shop with outdoor area (I didn't try).... The SPOT film house contains a theatre, cafe/restaurant and a gift shop. It's nicely situated near the metro station, and easily spotted when walking along the road. Since I did not watch any film at SPOT, I thought that the place was overall not too interesting and that while you may find some interesting merchandise at the gift store, they... More

Lovely architecture for Taipei, but not reflected in the interior decked out as a bland modern coffee shop, and extremely kitschy gift shop with some arty products. I didn't get to see a movie there, but the films on show had no appeal. Not worth the trip unless going to see a movie there - hence given it a 3*... More

A former resident of the US ambassador to Taiwan was reopened as a complex for art. The cinema is one of the few in Taipei shows films from all over the world in their original sound tracks. Cafe is a nice corner with glass window that one could see through the garden and the side-walk over bushes. Giftshop displayed interesting... More
