Did I see the same place as other reviewers?
Apr. 2019 • Solo
Even though some of the other reviews were older, I took a chance and visited this monastery. There is a small store, some dorms, a prayer wheel, and the temple. It is tiny and prayers only occur in the morning. It doesn’t look like the pictures from the reviewer that called it ‘a gift’ so perhaps she was actually somewhere else? I tripled checked with the signs to make sure I was in the right place. Took about 2 minutes to see the whole monastery.

More interesting is the small museum across the road with a history of the Tibetan refugee settlement here. Lots of photos and very educational ( interesting but small).

But then one must walk through all the venders. I understand that this is their living and appreciate their hard work at handicrafts. But—every single person aggressively pushed their wares and guilted visitors into buying. The problem is, they buy beads (the exact ones that are available in the US) and make jewelry. This is something I can get anywhere—and hardly counts in my book as ‘Tibetan’ handicrafts. Other shops sold prayer flags made elsewhere, and the standard Nepali metal items.
There is a carpet store selling Tibetan made carpets, which was interesting.

Overall, worth a short trip to the museum if you happen to be in the area for other reasons, but know that the vendors will push hard afterwards.

What a gift!
Apr. 2017 • Friends
When we were in the region, prayer times were 3:30-5:00 p.m. Due to an "accidental" stop at another nearby monastery, we arrived at about 4:30, in time for a bit of the chanting. What a sacred gift, to be allowed in. Hearing, experiencing, feeling, having the prayers resonate was a true gift. To be a witness to this practice is indeed an honor. On our way out, we indulged in a bit of marketing. Money spent at the shop across from the temple helps to care for the 140 children and 60 monks at the monastery, so the purchases were well made!

Make sure you check the times monastery is open to avoid disappointment. Can be visited quickly though if one wants to spend some time, absolutely worth it.

Lovely place to visit. Not a large monastery but a lovely place to sit and reflect. Also see the other monasteries in the area.

"Moving and enlightening experience"
Dec. 2014 • Couples
We visited the monastery at prayer time and you are allowed to sit and be present. This was an amazing experience. It went for just over an hour so be prepared to sit on the floor for this length of time. Although you can leave mid way. Listening to the monks recite their prayers was very moving and is a spiritual experience. I recommend it.
