Shekhar and Kalpana gave us a magical tour into the Nepali traditional kitchen and food.
Kalpana's kitchen, with the smells, colors and tastes seems like the wonderland of Nepali traditional cooking.
With great details and patient, Kalpana went through with us, step by step, on main Nepali food cooking ( MoMo, pickles, Nepali dal, masala tea etc).
It was a real magical and educational tour, which the outcome was amazing and tasty food.
Thank you Kalpana and family that let us in to their house.
Now, all we have to do is to cook ourself based on what we learnt and wish the outcome will be at least close to the tastes we experince in Kalpana kitchen

After a short drive with the car that picked us up we arrived at Kalpana’s and her family’s home. We were warmly welcomed and started with making our own Masala tea to kickoff the cooking workshop. After that we made Dahl Bath, which was very delicious and explained in a clear and relaxed way so we could thoroughly understand every step in the process. We had a small tour around the property and shown the beautiful Eco hotel that the family runs next door, a great place to relax and hide from the busy streets of Kathmandu. Unfortunately, we couldn’t cancel our current reservation in thamel else we would have definitely stayed there. After the tour we learned how to make momos, which again was explained very well and the final result tasted heavenly.
We both loved this day so much. Kalpana and her family are great hosts and make you feel part of a Nepali family for half a day. Everything during the cooking workshop was done in consult to our wishes, and she was more than happy to answer all of our questions during the cooking process. It was an experience we will never forget and we would recommend it to everybody looking for an authentic cooking workshop! Thank you so much for the hospitality and amazing day Kalpana + family !!

This was a wonderful experience! I was alone for the class, so I was able to do almost everything by myself! The whole family welcomed me in a very friendly way and I felt very comfortable. The explanations were clear and the food delicious. We discussed about plenty of things and I was able to visit the surroundings of the house.
I highly recommend, thank you so much for this beautiful experience!

Can’t say enough good things about our day in Kirtipur with Kalpana and family. Felt right at home cooking, learning, chopping and laughing in their kitchen and dining room. We made dal bhat with 6 sides and momos. All delicious for vegetarians and omnivores alike. Wonderful family, beautiful home in a gorgeous setting. A very special day.

We had a great time with Kalpana and her lovely family. We were made very welcome and enjoyed preparing masala tea before starting on our Dal Bhat preparation and cooking. All the ingredients were fresh, many from their garden and we were shown each step of the recipe so that we prepared the dish ourselves. We ate the delicious lunch and after a short break we prepared mo mo. Kalpana patiently showed us how to fold the mo mo until we finally got the hang of it. Again, the final result was so tasty.
It was really special to experience a part of family life here in Nepal. Thank you!

What a wonderful morning spent with a very special Nepalese family. We were collected from our hotel at 7am as promised and driven out to Kalpana’s home. Their home is located around half an hours drive from Thamel and in a quiet regional area - a good break from the huddle and bustle of Thamel. We were welcomed into Kalpanas home and met all her family. Such wonderful, friendly, genuine people. Their smiles are all contagious! We started the morning with a cup of tea before embarking on our hands on cooking demonstration of Dal Bhat and Momos. After 3 weeks in Nepal I can honestly say that this was the best food we’ve tasted with such fresh ingredients. Kalpana is a wonderful cook and made sure we understood what we/she was doing at all points. Her daughter is gorgeous, so helpful, and we loved chatting to her and learning all about her 16 year old life. Her English is superb. We also spent some time with Kalpanas husband - his foresight is so inspiring and we loved touring their guesthouse and wish them every success for the future. I genuinely hope we’ll be back one day and we’ll definitely be staying at their guesthouse. A highly recommended half day adventure.

We spent a delightful day cooking and learning from Kaplana in her welcoming home perched on the valley rim overlooking Kathmandu. It was a memorable experience dining with her family as we ate the delicious Dahl Bat and momos we had just cooked for lunch. Kalpana's contagious smile, warm hospitality and fabulous food made this an experience one we will cherish fondly. A unique opportunity awaits anyone who yearns for a firsthand insight into Nepali culture. I can’t wait to cook these new dishes or my friends and family when I return home.

Thank you very much Kalpana's Nepali Cooking Class and Homestay, Sarsha and Adam

We were picked up from our hotel in Thamel and were driven to/from the cooking class in a comfortable vehicle. The class is held in a Nepali family home using fresh ingredients with many sourced from their garden. This is a hands on class and you create momos and Dahl baht from scratch and when finished you sit down with the family and enjoy the fruits of you labor. Kaplana our teacher and her family were a delight and it was a privilege to share their house for this class. After trying many many different momos and Dahl baht from around Nepal I believe that what we were taught to prepare was amongst the best we had. We cannot wait to return home and share this delicious food with our family and friends.
