Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

As others said, very tough to get to it with all the crowds. However, if you're catholic, you can get there on a Sunday morning with almost no crowd in sight. Definitely a local experience to go to mass there, and people at mass are friendly to Westerners without being weird about it.

Neither sorrow nor glory. Place to visit, which you will see if or if walking through the city, is what it is, the cathedral of Lome. You have to be clear at all times that it is Africa for the good and for the rest :)))

This neo gothic building has nothing particular to offer, just a normal plain church building. On the back it has a small garden with a Mary sanctuary. on the side of the church there are some administrarive buildings from the local church organisation.

Togo has a varied history and continues ti be a place with complicated politics. But before it was a French colony it was a German colony and this church stands as a testament to German occupation and colonial rule in West Africa. It's a pretty but basic church still in operation today with an area around the back that you can climb to get a view of the neighborhood. If you are in the area, and especially if you are German, swing by.
There's a plaque in the church with names and cities in Germany of the german people who helped pay to restore and also build the original church (no local togo people are mentioned) and my husband was surprised to see his little city of Speyer.
I'm not sure, if I were German, I'd be proud of my colonial history, but nevertheless, the Germans I happened to be with loved seeing their countries often overlooked colonial history.
FYI Germany had colonies in 6 modern day African countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Namibia, Rwanda, Tanzania and Togo

The cathedral is stunning to look at from the outside and is surrounded by a very busy atmospheric market where I was able to wander without being unduly hassled. However, the cathedral interior did not excite me and was not worthy of a visit.

Strong red and white colouring that's circled by the Grande Marche, so peace and madness in the same vicinity. Very similar looking to the Cathedral in Kpalime, displaying German colonisation before the French. There is a school next door where we handed out crayons to the little ones. Hard to get good exterior pics as it's so backed up to the market, but the whole building is in a good state and a striking emblem amongst Lome's hustle..

I only saw it from the outside, but it is in the middle of the Grand market and very hard to access. I had to fight through all the stalls in the Grand Marche to get close the church -- then there was a service going on and everyplace was filled.

Hi
The church is awesomely attractive. Do you have a guest house attached? I would like to come and celebrate holy mass in the near future.
If you have accommodation what is the charge per night ?
