Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you are interested to know how and why Kigali became the capital of Rwanda, this is the place to start. The guide we had was sensational. She talked for almost an hour and taught us many things about the town and about the country. It may be boring for some, especially for children, but for us it was exactly what we had been looking for. I think I paid RWF 10,000 (I am an expat) and my girlfriend (Rwandese) paid RWF 2,000.

This is an excellent, small museum, showing a small chunk of Rwandan history.
The welcome is personalised, by local workforce knowing how to welcome customers.
The place shows the period of German colonialisation, and a few snakes and crocodiles. We did not see the connection, unless, that is, we get cynical.
Our main regret, though, is that the sources for documentation seem not diverse enough to give a full, panoramic picture of the period.

This is a depressing museum in more ways than one.
It provides an important reminder of the terrors of colonialism.
But it's very minimal and those poor snakes are not in good conditions. And someone needs to rescue the crocodile.
I'll agree with the other reviews that state that it's an interesting-looking house and has great views.

I was in a business meeting about opening of the museum as one of the world cultural center. I managed to go around, see some snakes and crocodiles, and some history about Kant. However do not expect much, but us worth visit than staying at the hotel bulcony so that you can learn more on Rwandan history

The Kandt house is the former residence of the first German governor of Rwanda. It is well preserved and has a nice collection of photos inside, a.o. of the Rwandan royalty at the time. Also somewhat randomly there is a small zoo with crocodiles and snakes on the site. And a small gift shop. Definitely worth a visit!

Where else can you see an exhibit of live snakes in Kigali? This place is small, literally the house of a former German explorer and resident, and has been converted into a sort of living museum / natural history museum. Worth a visit if only for the live snakes! The rest of the exhibits in the rooms are interesting, if a bit static and outdated. Recommend the self-guided option, unless you have extra time, since the guides may insist on showing you EVERYTHING in the museum, each with explanation. This could take you an hour or more, so avoid if you're in a hurry. That said, the guide was very well informed and engaging, and spoke excellent English. But we really didn't have a huge amount of time to spend there, so we sort of had to politely rush him along.

We had an hour's guide which was very interesting and informative on the early history of Rwanda. The only downside is the reptile exhibit - which is not really anything to do with the museum but needs a mention as the conditions that the snakes are being held in are terrible. No need to have it there - please re-house the snakes to a zoo or somewhere else - it adds nothing to the museum and in fact detracts from the excellent tour.

We went to the museum to help a friend who is participating in geocaching. The item was outside in the back of the museum. The staff would not let her proceed without paying the entrance fee for the museum and so we complied. Four of our party paid the fee, 6,000 RWF, and discovered very little to view. Would advise travelers to skip this stop.

This is a very interesting museum for people who are interested in stones and minerals.. for everyone else.. don't go there!! The tour is lame, they don't have much to display. (except for stuffed animals and toy dinosaurs). We thought it was absolutely not worth the entrance fee.

For RWF6000 (approximately 9 USD) I was hoping to walk out with a greater appreciation of, well, Rwanda's natural history. Instead, I felt ripped off....there's not a lot to see, and many of the posters are in Kinyarwanda and German, making many exhibits impossible to read (unless, of course, you speak one of those languages). There are three parts to the museum. Part one is all about the wildlife one can expect to see (or used to be able to see) in Rwanda's national parks. Part two consists of a few cases of minerals/rocks, many of which are not labelled in English. Part three features a handful of live, deadly snakes found in Rwanda. I was sincerely hoping that this part would be the most interesting - and it was (though still not great by any means). The snakes that were there were interesting to see, but the printed facts about the snakes leave a lot to be desired. For instance, saying that a snake is "very long" doesn't really make me feel that the exhibit is credible in the least. Furthermore, visitors are encouraged to tap on the glass cages of the snakes to agitate them, making them more "interesting" to look at. Hummmmmm. Oh, and one more thing - after seeing the snakes, I saw a hut with some other live animals in cages....when I went over to see what was there, I realized there was a hutch full of guinea pigs. I asked a guide what they were for and she didn't know....she called someone else over who told her they were snake food (yup, what I expected)! I explained that where I come from, they're children's pets and the guide looked both disgusted and mortified! Ha! Anyway, probably not a place I'd recommend unless you have literally seen everything else to see and need to kill 30 minutes.

Hello there, I would like to know more about the entrance fee at your museum, thank you.

You would need to approach the Museum directly for that. I was simply a visitor.
