Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you want to know about the history of railroads in what today is the country of Namibia - this is the place to see.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The exhibition is very well curated and many interesting photos are on display.
There is also a bit of railway hardware on display outside. Definitely worth a visit.
Closes at 1pm, BTW.

This is well worth an hour of your time, a very fine collection of object and images from a railway system which once linked the country, but today is underused. Windhoek station is a fine building, in very good condition, even if almost no passenger trains now run from here (let's hope that changes). The museum is run by a very friendly man, who will be pleased to see you.

I'm a train nut and a history buff, so this was perfect for me. The museum has plenty of things to see and touch from the history of the railway, which still operates, and there are locomotives and other pieces outside to see too. Dixon was a fabulous guide and very informative about the railway's history and the items on display.

The museum is located on the top floor of the original German station building, close to the centre of town

Nice insight in the history of the railroads in Namibia, station has a lovely architecture. Former types of railroads.
Do not visit the area by yourselves (but visit in small groups), when nobody is around, one of our friends has been robbed when taking pictures

Surprisingly enjoyable little museum, especially if you have any interest in trains. Closed during lunch, but well worth a 30-60 minute visit.

Not really a museum as such but some interesting old engines outside. Inside there are old photos (mostly in German) showing what it was like in the 19th centrury.

Lots of interesting coaches etc. on display outside of the station. Could do with a spruce up on the actual station - especially now that the Desert Express is running again.

An interesting little museum close to the railway station. Lots of rooms full of equipment and historic memorabilia from Namibia, focused on rail history. A nice way to pass an hour.

I had a special reason to visit Windhoek Railway station and museum.
I recently discovered that my South African grandfather had driven the 154A class "Zwillinge" locomotive (which now stands proudly on a plinth in front of the Windhoek station building) over 100 years ago.
Earlier this month I travelled from the UK to visit and pay homage to this icon.
I was impressed looking around the Trans- Namib railway museum. Whether you are a train engine enthusiast or not it is of great interest to view the displays and exhibits from the past .
Konrad the curator gave my cousin and myself a guided tour and explained about a lot of the items on show.
