It was designed to be shipped out in pieces and erected on site it was built of metal sheets which in the tropics makes it an oven. They have now got air-con that works and made it the Ministry of Tourism!

The Iron House was designed entirely of tin by Gustave Eiffel (of Eiffel Tower). Now a Government building, but some of the rooms are available for viewing.

The house that was designed by the famous French architect Gustave Eiffel and meant to be used by the Governor was never occupied by him. He pretended it was too isolated where it used to be located at the time. It may also have been that at the end of the 19th century there were not too many ways to... More

I was walking by the house and wanted to see whether it was open and, if so, what was inside. I saw a security guard and asked in my broken Portguese if I could go inside. He brought me inside and while only one small floor was able to be visited, it contained some photos and maps of archaeological sites... More

Honestly, I get what the hype is about as it was designed by Eiffel however now it just looks like an over sized tin house.

This was my favorite building in Maputo. Not because it was the biggest or had the most stature but because in have never seen anything like it. It is constructed out of steel panels that is bolted together. A really nice different building and it was designed by same person as Eiffel Tower in Paris.

Although there are many examples of prefabricated iron houses throughout the world, this is the only one in Maputo. It is well maintained and quite a pretty building. There is no reason to go inside.

How very intriguing and interesting. A touristy place to visit when you are in Maputo. A wonderful tea garden around the corner.

Nothing great as compared to so many other places. Its probably having just historical value, its too hot inside, its Ok just to visit once since now you are in Maputo - even if you skip this or just view if sitting in your car from outside - still its OK
