This was a highlight of our holiday, all the food we tried was super tasty! We loved the buzz of it all. It get's VERY busy around lunch time and food does tend to run out around 3pm.

very good for shopping, you need to bargain , otherwise you pay at least double price, if not triple. Vendors are nice and not pushy

Busy, honest, varied fruit and vegetable market, with Mauritians doing their daily shopping. Frenetic pace and scruffy to some eyes , but if you want a sanitized experience , go to the Courdan shopping centre . No real hassle to buy tourist 'tack',(of which there is plenty) on the upper level just be polite and 'no problem'. The stall owners... More

This isn't Marrakech , but be prepared to banter and say no, but seek out things you want to see, here is the place for spices, clothes. Close by is the vegetable market, and alongside the Meat and Fish markets which are architectural gems, the fish counters were fairly empty by 11am so go earlier, amazingly no fishy smells, see... Definitely worth a visit if you are driving through Port Louis or staying in the neighbourhood. I also suggest you walk to the first floor (clothing and such). However in some places right outside the market it stinks. This seems to come from dry fishes but I am not too sure.

Like most market, this place is crazy busy,, You will mingle with the locals doing their grocery shop. Most of the place was clean, but there were a few pongy places along the way, .but still worth a visit.

Visited Central Market as part of the day out in Mauritius. We had a private taxi driver who was our guide in Mauritius that day. He was very friendly and knowledgeable so we probably found out a lot more about Port Louis and Central market than if we just used the book guide and went there on our own. The... More

A huge selection of food and souvenirs and always very crowded. The atmosphere is friendly but you do need to be firm with the stall holders if you do not want to buy their wears. They expect you to haggle so you need to know what is a realistic price. Definitely a place to visit to experience culture of Mauritius.
