Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We visited here whilst on a tour and must say unless it’s included within a tour don’t bother! There are no information boards or signs to explain things about the fort, it has good views of the city but that’s it!

Fortunately as we visited here as part of a tour our guide was able to explain things about the fort but I personally still don’t think it’s worth visiting!

Built entirely out of neat stone bricks, the hill top fort is a good way to take in panoramic views of the city.
The barracks are not used but would have been good idea to have some festivals/ some craft shops/ etc to make the place livelier.
Or some story audioguides to give a better sense of why this place is historically significant.

While not particularly impressive, this spot offers a great vantage point for capturing picturesque images of Port Louis. It's an old fort with some historical significance, once used to defend against enemies and later as a prison for slaves. The view from the top at all four corners is lovely, and you won't need more than 30 minutes to explore this site.

A great viewpoint of the city, port and surrounding mountain-scape.
We really enjoyed taking a minute or 2 to enjoy the city in peace.
Other than the view there’s nothing else really there so definitely combine as a stop point in a day of other activities!

For the best view of Port Louis this is the place to come to. Entry is free but there is little to read or get information on the fort. Read up on its history before you go and get the most of this wonderful structure. The guides do know a bit but you have to hunt them down and then they are willing to divulge information. The rear of the fort has been converted into tourist trap shops selling precious stones. Dont get sucked in by the prices as they are at least 40% than other places.

We decided to walk to the Citadel for the views on a Sunday afternoon. The steps leading from the access road where broken and the area did not look inviting, with broken glass, rubble and rubbish lying around. Reaching the top we found the Citadel to be closed. There was a gentleman however who could open the gate for 100 rupees per person. Inside it was pretty spartan and it appeared that there was a jewelry outlet and kiosk inside which would be open at other times. The views from atop the rampart are indeed spectacular and there was also a welcome breeze to cool us down. The gent who let us in gave us a quick description of the various parts of the city as if to justify the fee to let us in. The toilet facilities were open, though the gents was very smelly but had water. My wife reported the Ladies was ok, but had no tissue or water. Maybe the situation is different during the correct opening hours.

The citadel itself is not that interesting with the exception that it is not good to defend the harbor but to subdue the city but it provides the best view of the city.

This place is worth to visit for one main reason: it gives you perfect view on the capital city of Mauritius. P.S.: the name of the fort has nothing to do with Australia :-)

This place offers a great 360 view of the capital. Started our north island tour with this and it was a great start. Our driver came with us and gave us a bit of information about the key spots around that area visible from the view deck, the surrounding mountains, the port, and a bit of the history of the fort.

Wouldn't really require much of your time, plus it's nearby other areas like the Caudan Waterfront and the Central Market, so it's really worth stopping by. Try to avoid Saturdays though cause there are a lot of people due to the horse races, not unless you want to see that. :))

You can contact Stephan at (+230) 5 894 39 23 for Taxi Service. Really great guy, the tour is worth your time and money.
