Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We were told that this Tamil Temple was just recently completed. The god Tamil is supposed to be the god of war and victory. The temple is easily seen from the M2 highway at the cruise port turnoff. I knew when I saw as we left the port for a tour that we had to go back later to see it closeup. WOW! The Tamil people consider this a "place of god" and a piece of heaven on earth. It is AMAZING! The ornate detail of this complex is mind blowing. All the idol figures are painstakingly hand made. Artisans were brought in from India to put this all together.

BOTTOM LINE: Because this temple is so new, the colors of all the parts and pieces just jump out at you. Incredible detail is found everywhere. Every part of this complex is mathematically perfectly made according to tradition. I have seen several of these temples throughout Asia and this is the nicest one I have seen. BEAUTIFUL! I could not stop taking photos of all the thousands of details. It's a photographers dream come true! Do yourself a favor and put this on your "MUST SEE" list. You will be glad you did. MY RATING: A PERFECT 10/10 !

The Tamil ethnic Indian people compose about 6% of the people of Mauritius. This temple and all Tamil Temples are built to strict rules and traditions that go back thousands of years. Looking at all the figurines, they are made to represent a deity of some type and when the temple was dedicated they went through a ceremony to become a living entity they believe.

I would love to have someone to explain what each figurine means and what every level going up represents. Well worth you time to stop even for 5-10 minute. This is sacred site so please be observant of their rules.

We visited the Kaylasson Temple, or Sockalingum Meenatchee Ammen Kovil as it’s otherwise known, whilst on a day trip to Port Louis during our honeymoon in October 2019.

The Hindu temple is located on the outskirts of Port Louis and is dedicated to the god "Shiva".

The temple itself is absolutely stunning and the pictures I took don't do it justice. The colours are so bold and striking it literally takes your breath away. Make sure your camera is charged when you visit as you will definitely use it. I would advise sensible clothing when visiting the temple as it is a place of worship, and remember to take off your shoes before you go inside the temple.

There is no charge for visiting the temple and there is a large car park onsite. I would recommend spending a good hour to fully appreciate this magnificent building. If you like peacocks, you can see them at the rear of the temple.

If you are visiting Port Louis, then this is something you definitely should not miss.

Highly recommended – 10/10.

An ethnic tamil temple in Port Loius, Mauritius. Kaylasson Temple also known as Sockalingam Meenatchi amman temple is well maintained, tranquil nineteenth-century, dravidian architectural temple. We visited on the day of Ayudha Pooja so lot of tamil people gathered in the temple and special poojas performed. Felt good to witness the tamil tradition and culture spread beyond continent

While planning our trip to Mauritius months in advance, we first read about this temple, and we immediately knew we had to visit. Seeing pictures of the temple online gives an impression of its beauty, but visiting it personally is an amazing experience. Of course, being respectful is of paramount importance when visiting a place like this. For example, you shouldn't take pictures inside the temple complex. If you have any questions there will be people around the complex ready to help you.
