Its a protected island and whatever you are paying for the trip goes to the maintenance and safekeeping of the island. A guided tour which was very enriching. The island is inhabited by endemic birds, telfairs' skink, giant tortoise of Aldabra (Bid Daddy the 100 years old tortoise) and trees (especially the ebony). Very humid in the summer but worth... We visited this island and had a great time. The guide was British, very informative, funny and passionate about this project of preserving species - both plants and animals. This was our first encounter with tortoises both very huge and very very small. A great tour that we will definitely recommend to all - bring cash - we were very... More

Worthwhile trip to make to see the rare pink pigeon, skinks and Fodis. Well operated tour. Unless you are a botanist the shorter visit is enough ie 1.5-2 hrs. Good to see what Mauritius would have looked like before humans got there.

This island is by guides tour only so make sure you book. The island is hotter than the mainland so make sure you bring plenty of fluid with you. The path is quite uneven so make sure you have proper footwear. As a nature lover, I enjoy the guided tour very much and good to see the conservation program. It... More

The speed boat trip to the island takes about 5m of fun and great scenic views of the coral island, mahebourg and the highlands. Upon arriving to the island, we've been taken to see the tortoise nurseries and then we're briefed about the island, the nature reserve and its flora and fauna. We've met Big Daddy (Aldabra tortoise with 100... More

This was going to be a highlight of our visit to Mauritius. We were supposed to be on this beautiful island for two hours. Instead the local guide whisked us around for thirty minutes. We did not even get a a chance to look around and were rushed off the island without even a second look at the one giant... More

I suspect some reviewers thought they were promised heaps of wildlife but that's not the point here. The Mauritius Government is keen to reverse some of the floral and wildlife damage caused by Man and here they show off their limited - but important - successes. We were fascinated by the tortoises including the hundreds of babies in the nursery.... More

I had been here two years ago and loved it, with great views of rare species like Mauritius Fody and some worthwhile conservation initiatives going, and an informative visitor centre with some wonderful bronze statues of Dodo, the extinct ibis etc. This year we got rushed around in a very offhand manner, on and off the island in 45 minutes,... We were lucky enough to be able to get a VIP tour of Ile aux Aigrettes and it really was wonderful. Check in at the Mauritian Wildlife Foundation hut on the coast road at Pointe D'Esny, just down the coast from Mahebourg towards Blue Bay. You get the speed boat from the waters edge and within 5 minutes you are... More

A short journey over to the island and a personal guide made this a perfect chance to see some rare wildlife in natural surroundings. Our guide Richard was very knowledgeable and ensured we saw a whole range of fauna and fauna. Several sleepy tortoise, Pink Pigeon and Skinks to name a few. Walking is involved but on the whole it...
