- IndySigIndianapolis, Indiana4,119 contributionsGreat First Mada AdventureWhile it is a bit difficult to get to because of the traffic, it was the best way to start our adventures in Madagascar. The park is well run, the guides are excellent and the up close looks at the lemurs is excellent. We did the pick up/lunch and tour and it was worth every penny.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 19 October 2023

- SchhelKigali, Rwanda191 contributionsGreat opportunity to see lemur’s up close if you are short of timeI wasn’t sure sure about going to this place at first but it ended up being a very good experience. It is indeed a bit pricy but they are doing a good job minding the lemurs. According to them, these are lemurs saved from the pet trade, with the babies ending up being born in captivity. They cannot be released in a wild, hence this park. At the end of the day, it is a great opportunity to see semi wild lemurs up close. I was in Tana for a work trip and did not have time to go deep in the forest. If I was on a month long tourist trip, I would probably skip the park. However if you are short of time, it’s a great experience. The guide was very friendly, knowledgeable and spoke excellent English and French. Food was average. - kuu-kankoHelsinki, Finland839 contributionsClose contact with lemursThe lemurs were quite tame and came really close - something that would be practically impossible with wild animals. I could also watch several of them being fed. The drive from Tana took a bit over an hour in the morning traffic. I spent a bit over an hour in the park: the tour took an hour and I had to wait about 10 minutes before the tour started. I left my hotel at 8:30 AM and got back around noon. The cost was 70,000 ariary for the entrance (cash only) plus a tip for the guide. My driver adviced me to tip 20,000 if the guide is excellent (which he was), 10,000 otherwise. My hotel arranged a return transfer from Tana for 170,000 ariary.Visited June 2024Travelled soloWritten 30 June 2024
- Poor M9 contributionsLast 1/2 day Madagascar trip.Journey to this park has to be early as traffic jam from town to park is bad. Park opens @9am. Depending on available of guides, most probably will a few small groups into 1. We had 3 small groups as 1 visiting group of 7pax. Park is not big. 7 types of lemurs stays there. Quite easy to spot as guides who where they are. Main attraction to us is its ring tail lemur. Smaller than usual as it is not exactly their living environment but is ok. Spotted 1 chameleon andamy tortoises. After 1h 15min, we ends out lemur walk and took rented taxi to airport and ends our Madagascar trip.Visited August 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 13 August 2024
- MumbaiRidersMumbai, India1,904 contributionsLemurs ParkLemurs' Park (also known locally as Parc de lémuriens à Madagascar) is a small botanical garden and lemur reserve covering 5 ha (12 acres), and is located in Imerintsiatosike, 22 km (14 mi) southwest of Antananarivo. It was founded around 2000 CE by Laurent Amouric and Maxime Allorge. Most of its nine lemur species are free-ranging within the park, which also contains more than 70 of Madagascar's endemic plant species. Most of the park's lemurs were confiscated pets, entrusted to the park by the Ministry of Water and Forests. The lemurs are rehabilitated and bred for reintroduction into the wild. The park also collaborates with Colas Madagascar and TOTAL Madagascar to provide environmental education to local primary school children and to plant native trees as part of a reforestation program. Most of the park's staff come from the neighboring communities.I was the first tourist of the day at 0900 hrs when the park opened.Entrance fee to the park was 70,000 Ariary and at the entrance there is a exhibit of a whale skeleton and a now extinct Madagascar Pygmy Hippopotamus. My guide was Mr Voaharinjaka Jonathan who spoke fluent English and was excellent in explaining various locales of this park during our walk along the forest route. As it was feeding time in the morning i was at the right place at the right time and our first sighting was the Sifaka breed of Lemurs ,absolutely accustomed to humans akin to domestic pets but living in the wild forest and not cages.Only difference between totally wild Lemurs and Lemurs of "Lemur Park" is that while wild Lemur's hunt for their food in the forest these semi tame Lemur's of Lemur Park are fed thrice a day by humans and if released in a natural forest would find it difficult to survive on their own.The visit to this park was worth the time , travel and money as i got a extremely close view of a few species of Lemurs as also a Lemur with its baby. Before visiting any national park in Madagascar it is advisable to first visit "LEMURS PARK' to view lemurs from a close distance rather than by binoculars in the national parks.Visited September 2024Travelled soloWritten 27 September 2024

I came to Madagascar to see lemurs. They are primitive primates, dating back in time to before monkeys and apes arose. When Madagascar geologically broke off from Africa and drifted away, the lemurs on Madagascar had the primate realm all to themselves. No monkeys or apes. Lemurs diversified. So many species, including one with lemurs the size of today's gorillas. Humans first came to this island about 2000 years ago. They ultimately wiped out several lemurs species, including the largest one. But there are still many dozen of species alive here.
Lemurs have great leaping ability and can be very vocal. Most of them are nocturnal. There are six species of lemurs here. They are interesting to watch and listen to.

I decided to visit Lemurs Park with a couple of new friends I met during my week-long trip in Western Madagascar. Our flight from Morondava to Antananarivo arrived early in the morning so we just decided to head straight to Lemurs Park from the airport. Having already seen lemurs in the wild in Kirindy Forest and in Tsindy de Bemaraha NP, this place gave us a chance to see the lemurs up close. All the lemurs here were rescued & are protected, as they freely move & roam around the entire park. The park is very well-maintained and safe for the lemurs, and the guided tour was very informative. We also ended up having lunch here as they have a restaurant that serves really good food. Lemurs Park is only 1.5h away from Tana depending on traffic, and the guided tour around the entire park took about 3hrs, but it’s definitely worth a visit.

This was a great little park to walk around, where the Lemurs are free to roam. Although there is a fence around the park - this is to keep the humans out, rather than the Lemurs in - they can leave if they want (but they choose to stay).
There is a wide variety of native trees & plants for those people that are also interested the native flora of Madagascar.
The park itself is well maintained, with very knowledgeable & friendly staff. The pathways are easy to navigate.
Depending on traffic, the park is 1-1.5 hours (25km) from Antananarivo. A comfortable trip if you only have half a day available.

Well the parc itself is well undertaken, but this is an instant gratification for those who are in a rush to see lemurs in Madagascar. As a wildlife explorer an lovers, this is not really my cup of tea. Somewhere in my inner, i feel bad about those Lemurs fed with vegetable, (normaly a lemurs wont eat those things it spoilled their natural instinct and they will lose their furry). As it is a reserve they have to be hand feed but any way this is more like a zoo visit.
For those who are expecting a close look and a close photo to diverse lemurs, this can be a place to fullfill what is missing.

Unique experience for sure
Poss payment doesn't work and there's no internet either
Restaurant menu needs improvement because you only have two choices
High prices for eating
Entrance €15/person (you can pay euros)
It seems like a lot of life there
But come on, it's also there because it's always full of people

tourists find everything positive, even if it is not. this park is totally overpriced and offers very little. most animals are imports from other countries and on top of it the guide is not includet and expects a handsome tip. go and visit the zoo at home!

I have been to Madagascar twice, 2004 and 2014. The first was on a private tour with a guide who took four people. The second was with our favorite expedition company, Zegrahm, a company that went under with COVID. Both trips were excellent. The lemurs are fabulous, but they are hard to see. Do not miss the Indri lemurs who howl every morning. You have to climb in a forest to find them, but you will never forget the sound!

Is there a fee to go in to the Lemur park?
Written 22 September 2018
Yes, 1 to 3 persons its 35,000 Ariary (about US$10) each, it gets cheaper for larger groups. The very knowledgeable guide is included, although a tip of around 10-15000 Ar is expected. The tour lasted about 1.5 hours, and is excellent.

I am planning to go to lemurs parc. It looks like it will cost a lot to get there by taxi so wondered about turning it I to a full day trip. Is there anything worth combining it with ad a full day out of Tana?
I have been quoted 40 USD to take me, wait and bring me back. Says leaving at 8 and returning at 5 but all reviews don't seem to think it needs that long. Any advice appreciated.

Actually the price is not bad, it is along way there and back and you have Tana traffic, It is a nice place to visit and not all commercialized we really enjoyed it and learned alot

Will we need to reserve tickets for entrance or guides in advance?
Written 14 April 2018
No, I don't think so. Just show up. Might be busier on weekends but I think there's always a guide. We went in the morning, so maybe that's another consider.

Is this called Cocotier Sanctuary?
Written 18 August 2016
Lemur parc is just outside Antananarivo, the capital. Lemur island is a little reserve owned by Vakona Hotel in Andasibe. That is a 3 hour drive from the capital.
Written 19 August 2016
I'm trying to squeeze this visit into a busy work stay in Antananarivo. My hotel quoted 80,000 for taxi to get there - is this reasonable? Organized tours appear to cost almost 200 USD, so this would be preferred option. Did you go on a tour or got there yourself? Thanks in advance - I'm going to do it this weekend some time!
Written 14 May 2015
I believe this transportation fee includes your park entrance too.
