Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Makola Market. Any expereinced traveler will have no trouble wondering around it. We had our taxi driver walking with us, but it was not necessary. Prices were incredibly reasonable, and we found no bargaining expected. Thsi was in contrast to the Arts and Craft Market, where the taxi driver took us to see his 'cousin's' shop. We bargained prices down 50% or more there and got quality goods, but much more expensive than at the Makola market.

Hustle and bustle aren’t enough to describe the scene at Makola. It is massive, fast-paced, crowded, and lively with traders and vendors of all kinds: food, jewelry, clothing, shoes, luggage/handbags, wigs and weaves, housewares, etc. Definitely hire a guide to assist you with navigating the market. Parking is available in a deck for a fee.

Wow oh wow, first I recommend to walk in from blocks away because the traffic to enter is insane. Some cars stayed on the same spot for over 40 mins. Walk in to save time. But this market has everything you need. Anything. You just have to find it. The streets are very very crowded and the sites of vendors all over can be overwhelming. But take your time and shop. I don't really bargain with the vendors because I support them. But you can negotiate if you like. Walk with small change and a comfy footwear. A must when in Ghana . Enjoy!! Thank me later

See the lively huge maze of merchants, food, shops, counters, hustlers in endless inner/over/under/hidden lanes and pathways.
Almost anything can be found. Much cheaper than the malls, or regular stores.
Don't forget to bargain. But do remember that ppl go there knowing what they want, and they are less appreciative on endless window shopping (without the windows...).

The fabric and jewelry sections were really amazing. I have never see. So many watches in my life! It is nice that there is some organization to the market, and we were happy with our purchases (some vegetables and spices and a pair of shorts). People were generally friendly and we enjoyed our experience. It seemed cleaner and less chaotic than the market in Madina. That might be partly because we visited Madina on a rainy day, but I do think that market is less well organized.

Was here twice. Interesting place to visit and see, and is certainly busy on the weekends.
First time round, bought a football shirt that didn't fit (damn Chinese sizes!) and some cheap sunglasses, and hung out at a bar within the market, which was fun.
Second time round bought some cheap jewelry, which broke afterwards but that is ok as it was cheap.
Ghana's largest market, is worth a look, but i don't know if it is good for buying anything really, more to have a gander than anything else.
The market is a little haphazard and not very ordered, so its easy to get lose within it, and I am not sure its possible to see it all...........is good to have a local with you......

It was a wild place on Easter Sunday night. It was packed. We had a trusted driver. We gave him the money in the car and discussed our tragedy. We got sandals and mangoes. It was an interesting experience. We did a little more looking, trying to find some earrings. Overall we would go again with Justice, the best driver and guide in Accra.

Anything you want can be found here but be mindful that some vendors are easily offended if you look and try on but don’t buy. If negotiating be sure to at least buy something or don’t negotiate. It is a melee but like I said anything can be found here!

First the DONT'S------1). Do not wonder into the smaller streets unless you are good at mapping… you wander too far into this market you may get lost! Either stick to the edges or the main streets 2).. Don't go here for a "western" shopping experience or to buy souvenirs …. 3) you Do not need a guide…4). Do not buy fabric without checking for the following logos….GTC... Akosombo. …Made in Ghana…Woodin…Da Viva…these ensure the fabric is genuine Ghana made 5)do not touch or ask to too much of stuff unless you intend to buy it. 6) Do not bargain too much…
NOW THE DO THESE….1)start at the car park. . At the end of the carpark is a very good market for clothing sent in as charity …do not be put off …95% of the pieces are in excellent condition and really wearable… Do not pay more than 5 -7 cedi for them….BELIEVE ME I’ve picked up a few so good that I‘ve had a tough time convincing my pals they were charity stuff. 2) ....real bargains in beads and bracelets..these line the way to the car park and in it too 3) Just cross the road and you will be in the market…. Different parts of the market is dedicated to different types of goods,...ask for the fabric section and you will be pointed in the right direction or will be taken there. JUST BEHIND THE CAR PARK ACTUALLY BEYOND THE CHARITY MARKET.Its very crowded and busy. 4).The real gems are hidden in very crowded alley ways...5) BUY KENTE CLOTH if you can it’s a totally ghanian souvenier…bit expensive though 6) BUY Woodin and Da Viva FABRICS….THESE TWO supply fabric to the design houses of the world and you will definitely find the current prints here..YES ITS TRUE..I’VE SPENT A SMALL FORTUNE ON THEM THEY ARE A BIT EXPENSIVE @ 20 CEDI A YARD …BUT SO TOTALLY WORTH IT..( china makes fake and cheaper fabric of the same prints..SO beware!!!!) 7) BUT the blue/grey/brown traditional Ghana print and also the awesome wax prints…9-12 cedi a yard is ok….bargain a bit….Do not expect a reduced rate for a single piece……If you need anything you haven't been able to find - you can probably find it here. Shoes, towels, sunglasses, beaded jewelry, bags, hats, a water basin, a chair, smoked fish, veggies - anything. Be conscious about your surroundings, hang on to what you are carrying, and have fun. African markets are the BEST !!!!!

I was in Accra for 11 days and i got the oportunity to visit the market. it reminded me of a market in my country only that this time it was more orderly. It was a big open market were u can get anything. ranging from groceries, clothes, shoes, furniture, home appliances and anything you can think of. What i loved most about the market is that the traders are very friendly and happy. Their prices were very good. and that kept me going back to buy more stuff.

Written 25 March 2018
I suggest you visit the market yourself to find out and establish the relationship with the buyers if they are available. I couldn’t walk the entire market, apologies I may not be able to give you a perfect answer.
