Most monuments to communism have been removed. This one has survived. Pays tribute to Cuban support during the war against Somalia. Impressive space that is pleasant to visit. Fountains weren't working and didn't look like they had worked for a long time. Perhaps the most...More

This monument in downtown Addis Ababa is a testament to the communist reign in the country that was defeated and now the country is ruled by the President and the office of the Prime Minister. While we were there, the very first visit of the...More

Never expected to see this, never realised the link between Cuba and Ethiopia. Nice green park and fountain, quiet space in a hectic city.

Classic Soviet style. Monuments are situated in a nicely gated garden which is a good place to find a shade and kill your time. Beware of the street kids outside the gate though, they work in pairs and are after your valuables in the pockets...More

Interesting Soviet-style memorial to the Ethio-Somali war of 1977-78. Built by North Korea. Worth briefly seeing if you are passing through central Addis - adds variety to the city centre and should be maintained. Free entry.

It is a huge stick going poof from the ground and in a beautiful color standing erect like a big ice cream collar I must say I was impressed even five seconds after the car passed the memorial statue.
