Lying at the very heart of Bangui, the Place de la République and its large white arch were built as a monument to Jean-Bedel Bokassa, the corrupt dictator who was overthrown in 1979.

The Place de la Republique is nothing but a cemented arch of a typical land mark particularly foreigners to identify PK0, which is the 0 point of city centre that leads ways to PK 1, 2, 3, etc. This place is heavily crowded many times...More

To go to the river, or to do shops, you will probably going to pass there. It's a huge round about and a remarkable place in Bangui.

Nothing fancy in this arch. It is at the roundabout 0 of the city centre. Close to the arch, there is a wine shop, open at night too, a bank and an Orange shop.
