Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The oldest building in the city with a very informative museum about the history of Dar es Salaam from a fishing village to a metropolis. The city is one of the fastest growing in the world! Historically, the exhibition spans the period from the Sultan's era, the German and British colonial period to independence. The Dar Es Salaam Center for Architectural Heritage (DARCH) also offers great city tours ($25) and reports on changed street names (e.g. Kaiserstrasse or Unter den Akazien) or the different city districts (the spatial separation at that time of separate areas for whites, Indians & Arabs and blacks is still architecturally noticeable) and ends at the largest market in East Africa: Kariakoo.

The Dar es Salaam Centre for Architectural Heritage (DARCH) is the best place to go to get information about the history of the city, the buildings, and the city's urban planning. We walked in off of the street and the two people working were so nice and prepared to give us a free tour. This was one of the best tours of the city that we had been on. The young man showing us around was very knowledgeable and helpful! He would tell us the history of something and walk away and give us time to take pictures and read things on our own. Once we were done, he would walk up to us and then we would take us to another area of the building. I liked that he did this and did not rush us through the center or pressured us to hurry up. I would recommend anyone staying in Dar es Salaam to visit DARCH to learn about the history of the city, and the attempts to preserve the original buildings. There is a lot new construction (new hotels and apartment buildings) going on in the area that is changing the original landscape of the area.

After visiting the Centre at the Old Boma we organized to go on a tour of the early building of Dar. Both the exhibition and the tour were packed with interesting info about the development of Dar and its architectural heritage.
On the tour our guide was excellent, a font of knowledge and friendly. We are planning to try another of the tours .
The tour of the old buildings is best on Sunday when there is much less traffic than in the week.

Certainly, this museum in Dar is a must-visit. I had the opportunity to explore the exhibition "Dar es Salaam: A History of Urban Space and Architecture," and it was truly fantastic. The curation was done with great care and passion, providing a wonderful opportunity to learn about the diverse communities that have inhabited Dar es Salaam and the various architectural movements that have shaped the city. I highly recommend it to history and architecture enthusiasts.

DARCH is housed in the recently renovated 'Old Boma' building - one of Dar es Salaam's oldest buildings. A beautifully designed poster exhibition tells the story of the city's architectural evolution, explaining the varied international influences that make its built environment so interesting. DARCH also houses temporary exhibitions and events, and offers architectural tours of Dar es Salaam covering themes like 'Colonial zones', 'Evolution of the streets', 'Early master plan', 'Fallen buildings', 'Textiles' and 'New vs old'. DARCH has a curio shop, and will soon be opening a library and a rooftop bar to allow visitors to enjoy the historic building and its view of the harbour.
