Knowing nothing in advance, we were recommended to go. It's a beautiful oasis in the old town, well preserved and free entry. Lots of stuff about Moroccan-american connections all the way back to 1777. Well worth the hour we spent there. A must if you're from US.

Deep in the medina is where this treasure is waiting. The staff are so helpful. It is such a contrast from the drear streets to find colour, information and artifacts

This is a rather specific topic museum, so if you like Paul Bowles, this is for you. Nice typical home, and a somewhat interesting history to the building.

Worthwhile for the Paul Bowles memorabilia if you're a fan. Would love to have heard some of the music he collected from all over Morocco which was sold at the small gift shop for 60 euros!

The American Legation building, near the southern tip of Tangier's medina, offers a glimpse into the long and generally friendly relationship between Morocco (the first country to recognize the sovereignty of the United States) and the USA. The building is now largely a museum, displaying information on the history of the legation, its diplomats, and local artists, such as the... More

This is a great place to visit to learn about American/Moroccan relations. The staff were wonderful, answering many questions, the displays were interesting, the paintings and artifacts were beautiful. Having been a Marine and former Diplomat, this place hit all the high marks for me. Young children may not enjoy it as much but during the heat of the day,... More

I must admit I was expecting from this space. Historically significant as gift from the sultan and the first U.S. building abroad under President Washington, Morocco recognized the U.S. as a legitimate power. Interesting bits of information, but it left me unfulfilled.

This is a must visit for travelers to Tangiers. Located at the portals of the Medina or Old City, the Legation is a museum, center for learning, and outreach -- all in one.

Great place for historical facts. A bit of folklore. A bit of art and books from American artists. The building is beautiful and well preserved.
