We liked the cinema so much. There is a very good cafe shop at the entrance. The only pity is smoking is allowed everywhere. The bathrooms are also nice and clean if you need to use, even if you are not going to the cinema. Cozy atmosphere.

A good art house cinema where it seems as important to be ‘ seen’ as it is to actually go see a film. Obviously lots of state funding keeps the place going as the cinema is invariably almost empty yet the programming is first class. I’ve seen films here before they have pitched up in Britain - depending on circulation time frames. Last time it was a French New Wave retrospective. The cinema cats over the years have been interesting too! Tangier has a more benevolent approach to these matters and the cats come and go and homes were found for the litter who spent their kittenhood in the large cinema! The wine is expensive plonk not a grand cru - maybe beer is a better option. It’s an important stop off on any Tangier itinerary. Check out the fava bean stall outside in the evenings too. Great place for people watching and wonderful cinema posters in the foyer.

The Cinema Rif opened its doors in 1938 primarily showing French and Spanish films. After WWII, it was saved from oblivion by establishing itself as a unique Art Deco cinema showing "Indie" films not normally shown on the commercial screen. Within the past several years it has sought to host representations of an developing "African Cinema" dealing with popular concepts and issues that are emerging on this continent. The cinema also has an adjoining cafe and is home to Cinematheque Tangier, a non-profit organization dedicated to Moroccan film development.

Together with Café Hafa one of my favourite places in Tanger. The building has an interesting style and interior with a mixture of authentic and artistic details, make sure you go to the bathroom :). Very artistic and cosy vibe. They have a very interesting movie selection and... perfect place if you're looking for a alcoholic drink (they serve beers and wine, drinking only allowed inside), due to this it's the place where the cool kids hang out in Tanger. If there's no movie playing you can also sit back, take a (good) coffee and watch the day & nightlife of the Grand Socco.
