Upmarket shopping a business area

A contrast with the old city but as in any city, new development brings new, higher prices. Pleasant to walk around with a good range of shops, cafes, hotels, banks etc.

Compared with teh medina, this is well worth a miss. Just a bunch of modern buildings and shops. Don't waste your time.

This is a great area to visit if you want to get away from the madness of the old city. Nice shops and bars. You can walk from the main square.

Super area to explore. Quality boutique- style shopping and stylish places to eat. Al Fassia restaurant has well deserved reputation - surprisingly fair prices for delicious food compared to less fancy places, lovely surroundings and professional service. Visit Al Jawda patisserie, 11 Rue de la Liberte - beautiful quality sweet treats. Lovely atmosphere at night in Gueliz, vibrant and safe.... More

There are lots of things to do here at the heart of the new city. The coffee shops range from art decor style like cafe de la post to modern like cafe 16. If you forgot some basic clothing then here you can grab anything from zara shop or H&M.

Good area to have stay in a hotel. If you don't want to stay in Riad or in the Medina buzz then this is area is more quiet and clean. New buildings and in Carre eden shopping center there is a big food store and alcohol store. We walked to the mountains near Gueliz and from there was also an... More

We walked down from Bab Doukkala gate, which took about 20 minutes Interesting to see the change from the old Medina to the new corporate world of Marrakech. There is McD, KFC and Starbucks, should you wish to eat 'western', but they are considerably more expensive than the excellent moroccan food outlets. We wandered about and found the Carre Eden... Complete opposite to old Marrakech in terms of what the people are like, how they dress, food that's eaten and atmosphere. Worth a visit just to see the difference however, it is very expensive McDonald's was ridiculously expensive.

It was an excellent surprise this modern part of Marrakech because it linked modernity with tradition. Beautiful buildings respecting Arabic architecture painted with Marroquin traditional colors, shapes, balconies (re-inventing the Jewish characteristic of the Medina), etc. Large avenues, gardens full of beautiful and exotic plants, flowers and trees, imposing squares, lovely fountains but above all a very cosmopolitan atmosphere. If... More
